Dopaminergic neurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus may modulate social dominance in mice.

Zool Res

September 2025

Research Center of Henan Provincial Agricultural Biomass Resource Engineering and Technology, College of Life Science, Nanyang Normal University, Nanyang, Henan 473061, China.

Social hierarchies are central to the organizational structure of group-living species, shaping individual physiology, behavior, and social interactions. Dopaminergic (DA) systems, particularly within the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and dorsal raphe nucleus (DR), have been linked to motivation and competitive behaviors, yet their region-specific contributions to social dominance remain insufficiently defined. This study investigated the role of VTA and DR DA neurons in regulating social dominance in sexually naïve male C57BL/6J mice.

Objective: This study explored learning barriers and facilitators medical students encountered during a general surgical rotation in various surgical environments, to create a framework to enhance learning in these environments.

Design: This was a cross-sectional qualitative study using an open-ended questionnaire with separate versions for students and teachers. An inductive thematic analysis was conducted, followed by a theory-informed deductive analysis.

CHIP ahoy: charting a decade of discovery in clonal hematopoiesis.

Haematologica

September 2025

Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, Canada; Department of Medicine, Queen's University, Kingston, ON.

Clonal hematopoiesis (CH) involves the expansion of hematopoietic stem cells with ageacquired mutations linked to myeloid malignancy. Advances in next-generation and single-cell sequencing, along with computational modeling, have expanded our ability to detect both common and rare CH drivers, including single-nucleotide variants and mosaic chromosomal alterations, with increasing sensitivity. While sequencing methods differ in accuracy, cost, and ability to detect low-frequency variants, they have deepened our understanding of CH biology.

Latent Profile Analysis for Patient Activation in Patients with Essential Hypertension.

Patient Prefer Adherence

August 2025

School of Nursing, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, School of Nursing, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: Hypertension constitutes a significant global health issue, requiring active patient participation in self-management and health-related behaviors. Patient activation is defined as the knowledge, skills, and confidence in the management of their health. Prior studies have primarily employed total-score methods, potentially overlooking the variability in patient engagement.

Zoonotic malaria risk at human-wildlife-environment interfaces requires surveillance that integrates signals from reservoirs, vectors and the environment. We coupled a drone-based environmental DNA (eDNA) canopy swabbing approach with portable quantitative PCR (qPCR) to detect DNA in situ during a 24-h field exercise in the Amazon rainforest. Drone-lowered sterile swabs into the canopy, which were then extracted and subjected to a multiplex pan- assay targeting five human-infecting species (limit of detection 0.
