The flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU), a superficial forearm muscle which provides wrist flexion and ulnar deviation, is used in surface electromyography (sEMG) applications for clinical assessments, rehabilitation, and human-machine interfaces. Proper electrode location on the forearm muscles is imperative due to small signal amplitudes and susceptibility to interference and crosstalk, where poor placement can give ambiguous or erroneous results. Currently, no formal method exists for locating sEMG electrodes over the FCU muscle. General advice is to palpate and observe muscle movements, however, this depends on the practitioner's experience-level, so can be subjective and inconsistent. This paper presents a systematic method for locating sEMG electrodes on the FCU muscle using palpation of the pisiform bone and humeral medial epicondyle, and establishing the muscle line between. The technique's efficacy was assessed using sEMG from three sites on the muscle belly, testing both arms of 10 participants, and analysing the resulting SNR, mean absolute value (MAV), and frequency spectrum. An electrode location at 80% of the distance from the pisiform is recommended to provide the highest median SNR and MAV across participants. These results provide guidance for locating a suitable and consistent sEMG site on the FCU that is less reliant on practitioner experience, which may benefit both clinical and biomedical engineering applications.

This study aimed to investigate the age-related alterations in mesial roots of mandibular first molar in terms of root canal curvature values, dentin thickness, interorifice distance, deviation from apical foramen, and location of apical foramen using a three-dimensional curvature measurement method and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Forty-five mesial roots of mandibular first molars from three age groups (Group 1: ≤ 30 years, Group 2: 31-59 years, Group 3: ≥ 60 years) were scanned using micro-CT. The central axis of each mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canal was analyzed using cubic B-spline curves to calculate canal curvature.

Awake craniotomy is the gold standard to achieve maximal safe resection of brain lesions located within eloquent areas. There are no established guidelines to assess patient's eligibility for awake craniotomy by weight class. This study assesses feasibility, safety, and efficacy of awake surgery by weight classes through an observational, retrospective, single-institution cohort analysis (2010-2024) of 526 awake craniotomies.

Introduction: Organisational problems still prevent widespread implementation of clinical medication reviews. The Opti-Med2 method was developed to facilitate the process of performing clinical medication reviews. The method includes patient involvement by means of a questionnaire and expert teams of community pharmacists and general practitioners (GPs) to perform pharmacotherapeutic analyses, providing the patients' own GP with pharmacotherapeutic advice.

The significant global energy consumption strongly emphasizes the crucial role of net-zero or green structures in ensuring a sustainable future. Considering this aspect, incorporating thermal insulation materials into building components is a well-accepted method that helps to enhance thermal comfort in buildings. Furthermore, integrating architectural components made from solid refuse materials retrieved from the environment can have significant environmental benefits.

Background: Livestock-MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) can cause infections in persons without known contact to livestock, but the route of transmission is unclear. We investigated whether the risk of livestock-MRSA infection among persons with no known contact to livestock is associated with the number of pig farms near the home, and whether this association is affected by the upwind/downwind location of the farms.
Methods: Register-based case-control study of 518 persons from Denmark with clinical infections with livestock-MRSA in 2016-2021 and no known exposure to livestock, and 4,944 matched controls.
