Menstrual blood-derived endometrial stem cells ameliorate neuroinflammation and apoptosis through JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway in NPC1 mutant cell and mice.

Stem Cell Res Ther

August 2025

Stem Cell and Biotherapy Technology Research Center of Henan, School of Life Science and Technology, Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang, 453003, Henan, China.

Background: Niemann-Pick disease type C1 (NPC1) is caused by NPC1 gene mutations, resulting in Purkinje cell degeneration and death, glial cell activation, and progressive neurodegeneration. Menstrual blood-derived endometrial stem cells (MenSCs) have been explored as a promising tool for treating neurodegenerative diseases due to their wide range of sources, non-invasive nature, and regular collection methods.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate whether MenSCs can improve neuroinflammation and apoptosis in NPC1 mutant cell (Npc1 BV2 cell line) and mice (Npc1 mice), and explore their underlying mechanisms.

Introduction: Depression is the dominant phase in bipolar disorder, but the available treatments are scarce. Lithium is a first-line option in several guidelines despite limited evidence, whereas cariprazine has a well-documented efficacy for depressive episodes. By comparing lithium and cariprazine in terms of efficacy and tolerability, we aim to contribute to an evidence-based positioning of lithium in future guidelines.

Unlabelled: Iatrogenic complications provide insight into the limitations of procedures. Complications associated with insertion of permanent dialysis catheter are numerous but central arterio-venous fistulas (cAVF) are a rarity. Our case reports a cAVF between the innominate vessels post insertion of a tunneled hemo-dialysis central venous catheter (HD-CVC) via left internal jugular vein (IJV) in a 43-year-old female.

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a well-established surgical procedure, with wide variation in reported postoperative dysphagia rates (1-79%). No standardized guidelines exist for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of postoperative ACDF dysphagia. The goal of the current study is to utilize a large database of US healthcare insurance claims to investigate incidence of dysphagia post-ACDF as well as risk factors for dysphagia and interventions performed in a large patient cohort.

Servicio de Radiodiagnóstico, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain; Departament de Fonaments Clínics, Facultat de Medicina i Ciències de la Salut, Universitat de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain.

Introduction: Artificial intelligence models can provide textual answers to a wide range of questions, including medical questions. Recently, these models have incorporated the ability to interpret and answer image-based questions, and this includes radiological images. The main objective of this study is to analyse the performance of ChatGPT-4o compared to third-year medical students in a Radiology and Applied Physics in Medicine practical exam.
