Objective: Childhood complex trauma (CCT) prevalence among individuals with comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder (SUD) is unknown. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare CCT prevalence in samples of PTSD alone, SUD alone and comorbid PTSD+SUD.
Method: A systematic review of PTSD, CCT and SUD literature was conducted using online databases. Binary outcome meta-analytic models were fitted comparing CCT prevalence in comorbid PTSD + SUD to PTSD and SUD only.
Results: Seven studies were included, and estimates for CCT prevalence were higher, on average, among individuals with comorbid PTSD+SUD (35%-78%) compared to PTSD alone (4%-70%) and SUD alone (2%-65%). A meta-analysis of four studies indicated individuals with comorbid PTSD+SUD were 18% more likely to have experienced CCT compared to individuals with PTSD only (RR = 1.18, 95% CI [1.13, 1.25]) and 24% more likely compared to individuals with SUD only (RR = 1.24, 95% CI [1.20, 1.29]).
Conclusions: Further research is needed to establish a more accurate prevalence rate for individuals with comorbid PTSD and SUD. Evidence of greater CCT prevalence will inform research study design and clinical targets during treatment for individuals with comorbid PTSD and SUD.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is increasingly recognized as a potential risk factor for glaucoma due to its association with intermittent hypoxia and vascular dysregulation. The aim of this study was to investigate early glaucomatous changes in the eyes of patients with OSA.
Methods: This case-control study included 25 patients with OSA and 25 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

A species of Saccocoelioides (Haploporidae) is reported from the intestine of the livebearer fish Jenynsia sulfurica (Anablepidae), which inhabits an extremophile environment in northwestern Argentina. This host species lives in a sulfide-rich thermal stream characterized by several extreme environmental conditions, including high temperatures, low oxygen levels, moderate pH, and elevated total dissolved solids. Morphological and molecular analyses indicate that the parasite under study is consistent with Saccocoelioides nanii.

This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of low-frequency (LF) whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) in reducing pain and improving function in patients with nonspecific chronic back pain (NSCBP). Given the global prevalence of NSCBP and the limitations of conventional exercise due to time constraints and comorbidities, LF WB-EMS, a time-efficient and joint-friendly intervention, has emerged as a potential alternative. All prior PubMed studies on WB-EMS and back pain have exclusively investigated LF-EMS (0-999 Hz), and this review assesses its efficacy compared to a passive control group (PCG) or active control group (ACG), addressing a gap in understanding its clinical utility for NSCBP management.

The concept of early vascular aging (EVA) was introduced to identify adults at risk of developing premature cardiovascular disease. EVA, or the dissociation between chronologic and biologic age of large arteries, is an evolving concept. In this review, we propose that EVA in youth characterizes the early life biological and environmental risk factors that precede overt EVA.

This study aimed to investigate how variation in iris color, along with ethnic origin, affects color vision. For color vision deficiency screening, the Ishihara, D-15, and D-15d tests were employed. Chromatic discrimination was assessed in normal trichromats using the Cambridge Colour Test (CCT).
