Background/aim: Clinical staging has become essential in veterinary oncology. It is crucial for creating effective treatment plans and predicting outcomes. Whole-body computed tomography (WBCT) can serve as a comprehensive staging examination, offering a detailed view of a patient's internal anatomy. This retrospective study aimed to assess the diagnostic yield of WBCT in diagnosing cancer in dogs and cats.
Patients And Methods: We reviewed medical records of cats and dogs that underwent a WBCT scan between January 2016 and May 2023. Only cases with a confirmed cytological or histological diagnosis of the primary tumor and complete medical records were considered. We collected data on histological diagnoses and diagnostic methods used.
Results: Our study included 57 animals that underwent WBCT for cancer-related reasons. Metastases were detected in 14 dogs, with four showing metastases in multiple locations, five in the lungs, three in the lymph nodes, one in the skeleton, and one in the liver, yielding a diagnostic rate of 31.8%. In cats, metastases were detected in six cases (five in the lungs and one in the lymph nodes), with a diagnostic yield of 46.2%. WBCT identified metastasis in over 35% of cases, including those outside the thoracic and abdominal cavities, indicating potentially greater accuracy than radiography and ultrasound.
Conclusion: WBCT is an effective and safe method for tumor staging and oncological diagnosis in dogs and cats.

The low dose dexamethasone stimulation test (LDDST) is routinely used in canine medicine but in the few cases in guinea pigs diagnosed with hypercortisolism, the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test was used. The objective of the authors was to conduct a pilot study and find out if the standard test used in dogs can be used in this species.A 4-year-old intact female hairless guinea pig showed bilaterally enlarged adrenal glands and high cortisol levels.

Purpose Of Review: Plasma metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) enables detection of microbial cell-free deoxyribonucleic acid (mcfDNA) in blood without the need for culture or organism-specific primers. Here, we review clinical performance, methodological variability, and real-world application of plasma mNGS for infectious disease diagnosis in immunocompromised hosts (ICHs).
Recent Findings: Plasma mNGS has rapidly gained attention as a novel diagnostic tool for infections in ICHs, offering broad-range pathogen detection from a noninvasive blood sample.

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, the etiological agent of Typhoid fever, remains a critical public health concern associated with high morbidity in many developing countries. The widespread emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella Typhi strains against the fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics, particularly ciprofloxacin, poses a significant global therapeutic challenge with underlying resistance due to mutations in quinolone-resistance determining region (QRDR) of gyrA gene, encoding DNA gyrase subunit A (GyrA). In pursuit of alternative therapeutic candidates, the present study was designed to evaluate ciprofloxacin analogues against prevalent GyrA mutations (S83F, D87G, and D87N) to overcome fluoroquinolone resistance through machine learning (ML)-based approach.

Chronic tinnitus is a common symptom of the auditory system. Its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood, primarily due to its multifactorial etiology, which resembles that of other chronic conditions. As a result, effective clinical management requires interdisciplinary diagnostics and personalized therapeutic strategies.
