Article Abstract

We propose a detailed approach for modeling the C-V characteristic of complex heterostructure-based devices, investigating the case of UV-C LEDs. The study is based on combined experimental measurements and TCAD simulations, and explores: i) the impact of defects at critical interfaces on the apparent charge profile; ii) the dependence of the C-V characteristic on the efficiency of carrier injection toward the QWs; iii) the impact of a non-ideal partially-rectifying p-contact on the C-V curves. By accounting for these processes and non-idealities, we were able to achieve a good reproduction of the experimental C-V characteristic and of the corresponding apparent charge profile. The result presented in this paper provide relevant information for the investigation of specific device features, based on simple electrical characterizations.

Background: Effective risk communication is essential in managing cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of global mortality. Clear communication between patients and physicians supports informed decision-making, yet comprehension gaps persist. We aimed to assess the quality of risk communication during hospital admissions for cardiovascular events, from patient and physician perspectives, and identify discrepancies in risk perception and associated factors.

We combine experiments and simulations to investigate the degradation dynamics and dielectric breakdown (BD) of SiO/HfO gate stacks irradiated with varying doses of 40 MeV carbon ions. The analysis of postirradiation electrical characteristics (current-voltage, -, capacitance-voltage, -, and conductance-voltage, -) reveals that the HfO layer is the most affected by irradiation-induced damage, leading to the formation of defects consistent with oxygen vacancies. Postirradiation constant voltage stress (CVS) experiments reveal an inverse dependence of time to breakdown () and Weibull slopes (β) on the irradiation dose.

Nitrogen-rich energetic salts have garnered growing interest owing to their flexible molecular frameworks and adjustable energetic behavior, highlighting the importance of investigating energetic ionic compounds. However, theoretical studies on the newly synthesized nitrate-based energetic salt, 2,6-diamino-1-hydroxy-9H-purine-1,7-diium nitrate, remain scarce. In this work, first-principles calculations are employed to comprehensively explore its structural, electronic, vibrational, and thermodynamic characteristics.

In this study, we found the significant catalytic activity of two dinuclear complexes of manganese(II) and cobalt(II), supported by a biologically relevant pentacoordinated NOS-donor Schiff base ligand towards the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The cobalt complex exhibits superior HER activity, displaying a Tafel slope of 77 mV per decade, compared to the manganese complex under the same conditions, which has a Tafel slope of 154 mV. The study also explores the structural, magnetic, and redox characteristics of the complexes to provide insight into these intricate systems.

Background: Diarrheal pathogens, such as Cryptosporidium, impose a heavy burden of disease in resource-limited regions. Cryptosporidiosis often causes chronic infection in immunocompromised people and gastrointestinal injury in malnourished children, leading to wasting, stunting, and cognitive impairment. Current treatment for cryptosporidiosis fails in these vulnerable populations, highlighting the need for new medicines.
