Reduced physical activities, social support, old age, and increased exposure to regular stressful life events are crucial factors for poor mental health. Although several medicines are available to support mental health-related symptoms, due to more side effects and non-compliance for long-term use, these conventional medicines are not appropriate to tackle these symptoms. In this context, the study aimed to determine whether spiritual energy therapy with an experienced spiritual energy practitioner could manage adults' psychological and mental health-related symptoms.

IntroductionThe optimal diagnostic pathway for pediatric acute appendicitis (AA) following an inconclusive or negative ultrasonography (US) is poorly defined, leading to debate over subsequent computed tomography (CT) use. This systematic review and meta-analysis compared negative appendectomy rates in children managed with a US-only pathway vs a pathway involving CT after a non-diagnostic initial US.MethodsFollowing PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD42024568560), we systematically searched 6 databases, including PubMed and Embase, through July 2024 for longitudinal studies comparing the 2 diagnostic pathways.

Background: The proteome is a valuable resource for pinpointing therapeutic targets. Therefore, we conducted a proteome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) study aimed at identifying potential protein markers and therapeutic targets for Anti-N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis (NMDAR-E).

Methods: Protein quantitative trait loci (pQTLs) were obtained from seven published genome-wide association studies (GWASs) focusing on the plasma proteome, resulting in summary-level data for 734 circulating protein markers.

Multimodality imaging assessment of the left atrial appendage for percutaneous closure.

Prog Cardiovasc Dis

September 2025

Department of Perioperative Cardiology and Cardiovascular Imaging, Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS, Milan, Italy; Department of Biomedical, Surgical and Dental Sciences, University of Milan, Milan, Italy.

Left atrial appendage (LAA) closure has emerged as a critical therapeutic option for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation who are unsuitable for long-term oral anticoagulation. Multimodality imaging plays a pivotal role throughout the LAA closure process, from pre-procedural planning to long-term follow-up. This review focuses on the complementary roles of cardiac computed tomography (CCT) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), outlining their respective strengths and limitations in various phases of LAA management, while also discussing the roles of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and fluoroscopy.

Using microplastic-carbon to reassess pollution level of microplastics in urban rivers.

J Hazard Mater

September 2025

Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China, Nanjing 210042, China. Electronic address:

Environmental microplastics (MPs) are challenging to compare due to non-harmonized sampling and quantification methods. As MPs are predominantly composed of recalcitrant organic carbon (OC), they contribute to the total organic carbon (TOC) pool in environments. The concentration of recalcitrant carbon in microplastics (MPC) can theoretically serve as a complementary, standardized mass-based index to characterize MPs pollution levels.
