Article Abstract

This study developed a pharmacokinetic model and web-based tool to distinguish true invasive aspergillosis from false positives caused by contaminated fluids. By analyzing galactomannan kinetics, false positives were identified within 24 hours, improving diagnostic accuracy and aiding clinicians in early decision making while minimizing unnecessary interventions.

In the United States, the use of Food & Drug Administration (FDA)-licensed, approved, or cleared tests is required for infectious disease screening and determining the eligibility of deceased donors for all Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/Ps). With the discontinuation of two manual enzyme-linked immunoassay (EIA) tests, automated Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay (CMIA) technology was introduced as the primary alternative. This study compares serologic reactivity rates between manual EIA and automated CMIA methods.

Analysis of essential genes in by CRISPRi and Tn-seq.

J Bacteriol

Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, USA.

Essential genes are interesting in their own right and as potential antibiotic targets. To date, only one report has identified essential genes on a genome-wide scale in , a problematic pathogen for which treatment options are limited. That foundational study used large-scale transposon mutagenesis to identify 404 protein-encoding genes as likely to be essential for vegetative growth of the epidemic strain R20291.

Purpose: Recent work has shown potential benefits for perimetry with dense spacing. To investigate the impact of normal inhomogeneity of perimetric sensitivity on perimetry with dense spacing, suprathreshold perimetry was used near the optic disc where shadows of blood vessels affect sensitivity in healthy eyes.

Methods: Three groups of participants were tested: 58 healthy older controls, 29 healthy younger controls and 18 patients with glaucoma.

Background: This study evaluated the applicability of histopathology, culture, and Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in diagnosing periprosthetic joint infection (PJI).

Methods: In this prospective trial, 215 consecutive patients with suspected knee PJI were enrolled. Tissue specimens were aseptically collected and processed for histopathological analysis, culture, and mNGS.

Hibernomas are infrequent brown adipose tissue tumors that can mimic various other soft tissue tumors, both malignant and benign, and multiple imaging modalities are usually used in the diagnostic approach. We present the case of a 30-year-old female patient who was initially diagnosed with a mediastinal hibernoma through complete excisional biopsy in 2022 and underwent surgical resection at that time. She required a second surgical intervention in 2024 due to recurrence and is now being evaluated for a second recurrence using fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT), reporting an extensive polylobulated mediastinal tumor intercalating normometabolic and discretely hypermetabolic zones.
