As a result of COI barcoding over 200 reared specimens of what appeared to be Cubus validus from northwestern Costa Rica, and matching them with their host caterpillars and morphological traits, we describe eleven new sympatric species. All are endoparasitoids of leaf-rolling Crambidae (Lepidoptera). The new species, authored by Zúñiga, Valerio & Hanson, are: Cubus alanflemingi, C. christhompsoni, C. curtsabrowskyi, C. duvalierbricenoi, C. gracewoodae, C. jeffcummingi, C. jimoharai, C. johnstiremani, C. manuelzumbadoi, C. montywoodi, and C. normwoodleyi. We also provide an illustrated key, a table of key morphological characters of each species, and a table of host records.

Unlabelled: The distribution of (Euphrasen, 1788) spans a pronounced latitudinal-environmental gradient from the subtropical to the subpolar zones. The species is reported to have multiple stocks along coastal China, exhibiting different spawning behaviors and habitat preferences. Such ecological variations might imply potential genetic divergence and local adaptation.

The ocular surface microbiome (OSM) is a low-density, low-diversity microbial ecosystem influenced by host and environmental factors, including age, hygiene, contact lens use, and systemic disease. Unlike other mucosal sites, the eye lacks a well-defined core microbiome, and its microbial composition varies significantly between individuals. Advances in metagenomics have revealed that commensals such as and may contribute to immune regulation and homeostasis.

Hibernomas are infrequent brown adipose tissue tumors that can mimic various other soft tissue tumors, both malignant and benign, and multiple imaging modalities are usually used in the diagnostic approach. We present the case of a 30-year-old female patient who was initially diagnosed with a mediastinal hibernoma through complete excisional biopsy in 2022 and underwent surgical resection at that time. She required a second surgical intervention in 2024 due to recurrence and is now being evaluated for a second recurrence using fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT), reporting an extensive polylobulated mediastinal tumor intercalating normometabolic and discretely hypermetabolic zones.

Background/aims: The extent to which low- and middle-income countries have implemented Advance Care Planning (ACP) and Advance Directives (AD) remains unclear. We aimed to map the current status of ACP/AD in Latin America.
Methods: This cross-sectional, mixed-methods survey of ACP/AD in LA comprised interviews with 18 key informants from 18 out of 20 countries, most of whom were appointed by national Palliative Care Associations.
Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a rare neuroendocrine tumor with variable clinical presentation, posing both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Disease recurrence is common and may manifest solely as elevated tumor markers in the absence of clinical findings or positive morphological imaging. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman diagnosed with MTC in 2011, treated with total thyroidectomy and adjuvant therapy.
