Article Abstract

Unlabelled: Sodium glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors improve glycemic control and reduce body weight (BW) in individuals with type 2 diabetes. However, there are still concerns that compensatory hyperphagia may affect their effects. Here, we performed an exploratory prospective study to investigate whether dietary intake and/or eating behaviors affect glycemic control and BW under long-term treatment with dapagliflozin. Fifty-three Japanese individuals with type 2 diabetes received dapagliflozin 5 mg daily for 104 weeks, with frequent assessments of HbA1c, BW, body composition, dietary intake, and eating behaviors. Dietary intake was evaluated using a brief self-administered diet history questionnaire, and eating behavior was evaluated using the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire. The study was registered in the University Hospital Medical Information Network Clinical Trials Registry (UMIN000019192). At 104 weeks, HbA1c decreased by 0.5% and BW decreased by 2.8 kg (both  < 0.001), with a dominant decrease in body fat mass by 2.2 kg ( < 0.001). No significant change was observed in calorie intake or the proportion of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. The change (∆) in HbA1c was significantly correlated with basal HbA1c, basal triglyceride levels, ∆BMI (body mass index), ∆BFP (body fat percentage), and ∆ferritin levels. The ∆BMI was significantly correlated with only the ∆BFP. Neither the ∆HbA1c nor ∆BMI was significantly correlated with dietary intake, any type of eating behavior, or changes in these parameters during this study. In conclusion, dapagliflozin treatment improved glycemic control and reduced BW without being affected by any changes in dietary intake or eating behavior over 104 weeks.

Objective: This study analyzed data from the US population to examine how oral microbiome diversity and diet quality individually and synergistically affect frailty.

Methods: This study included 6,283 participants aged 20 years or older from the 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 NHANES cycles. A frailty index (FI) consisting of 36 items was developed, with items related to nutritional status excluded.

Aim: To characterise periodontal and faecal microbiomes of individuals with periodontal health (PH) and diseases, and evaluate associations with periodontal, sociodemographic, anthropometric, nutritional and lifestyle factors.

Materials And Methods: Dental biofilm and faecal samples from individuals (n = 24/group) with PH, gingivitis (GG) and periodontitis (PE) were sequenced (16S rRNA). Anthropometric data and questionnaires on demographics, lifestyle, diet and intestinal habits were collected.

Introduction: Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a condition characterized by a distorted perception of one's own body image. Individuals with BDD exhibit excessive concern about their appearance, often fixating on perceived flaws that are either imaginary or minor. The prevalence of body image-related eating disorders has been increasing among university students, particularly in health-related fields, where students frequently experience pressure to maintain an ideal body shape and weight.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to examine the relationship between the Eating Assessment Tool-10 (EAT10) score, a screening index for dysphagia, and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score, which evaluates daytime sleepiness in Japanese workers.

Method: A cross-sectional study of 496 workers (454 men and 42 women) at two business locations in Japan was conducted from November 2021 to June 2022. Dysphagia was assessed using the score of EAT10, a self-administered questionnaire.

Background: More research is needed to clarify the health effects of dietary carotenoid intakes, and this requires the use of high-quality assessments of habitual dietary intake. Cohort studies from the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization included a self-administered food frequency questionnaire (TMM-FFQ) for community-dwelling adults. This study evaluated the validity of carotenoid intakes derived from the TMM-FFQ using serum carotenoid concentrations as the gold standard.
