Article Abstract

Group VII Tc and Re have long been studied to develop both radiopharmaceuticals and technologies for nuclear materials management. Fundamental research has targeted understanding this periodic table crossroads where polyoxometalates meets metal-metal bonded complexes. Here we have isolated green hygroscopic and metastable crystals of (Re)(Re)(OH)(O)⋅HO (Re-green, tet=tetrahedral, oct=octahedral), determined by single-crystal x-ray diffraction. In addition to color, Re-L X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy confirms the reduced oxidation state. Re-green provides the first demonstration of Re autoreduction, long-observed for Mn and Tc. We also isolated and structurally characterized [TcO(HO)(ReO)] (TcRe) polyanion crystals that contain Tc(V) and Re(VII), consistent with greater stability of reduced Tc compared to reduced Re. Small angle X-ray scattering of both compounds and prior-reported polyanion [TcO(HO)(TcO)] (Tc) dissolved in acetonitrile indicated a qualitative lability order of oxo-linkages of Re-O-Re > Re-O-Tc >Tc-O-Tc, and lability of Tc was also probed by Tc nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Computation provided insight into Tc chemical shifts as well as lability. Based on both reducibility and solution phase dynamics of polynuclear compounds investigated here, Re is an imperfect surrogate for Tc, and further expansion of group VII polyoxometalate chemistry seems promising.

The extra ring introduces further chemical diversity to the densely substituted precursors, isoflavonoids, making rotenoids a significant group of compounds within the plant kingdom. Surgical treatment of hip dysplasia in cerebral palsy: A retrospective comparison between open and closed reduction.

Medicine (Baltimore)

September 2025

Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Brazilian Association for the Welfare of the Handicapped Children (AACD), São Paulo, SP, Brazil.

Hip dysplasia in cerebral palsy (CP) is a common and severe problem, especially among nonambulatory patients. A likely cause is muscular imbalance and developmental bone changes leading to a progressive extrusion of the femoral head from the acetabulum. The ideal surgical treatment aims to reduce the dislocated hip to improve pain, positioning, and function.

Background/aim: A number of carbonic anhydrase (CA) family proteins have been implicated in cancer. They contribute to the hypoxic microenvironment. CAVII is often downregulated in colorectal carcinoma and it has been associated with increased tumor size, node metastasis, and adverse clinical outcomes.

Background: Heart failure remains a major global health issue, significantly impacting patients' quality of life due to its chronic and progressive nature. Effective discharge planning, including educational interventions such as videos and booklets, plays a crucial role in enhancing self-care management and overall patient well-being.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of discharge planning videos and booklets on the quality of life of patients with heart failure.

"The grief exists in a bubble that the rest of the world doesn't see": Exploring biographical disruption and meaning-making amongst people bereaved during the Covid-19 pandemic.

University of Bristol, Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group, Population Health Sciences, Bristol Medical School, Canynge Hall, 39 Whatley Road, Bristol, BS8 2PS, UK. Electronic address:

People bereaved during the Covid-19 pandemic experienced profoundly altered death, mourning and grieving practices. Worsened grief outcomes have been widely reported but less is known about how people coped during these unprecedented times. Using reflexive thematic analysis critically informed by theories of biographical disruption and meaning-making, we analysed 39 interview transcripts from 24 people bereaved during the pandemic in the UK.
