This study determined to predict the dry matter intake (DMI) in growing male Pelibuey sheep by using 3 different machine learning methods. Individual data was obtained from 130 animals whose average body weight (ABW) was 23 ± 6 kg and the DMI was 1.04 ± 0.27 kg/d from an experiment conducted under tropical conditions. To create the database, the following data were recorded: % concentrate in the diet (CON), initial body weight (IBW, kg), final BW (FBW, kg), mean metabolic BW (MBW, kg), daily weight gain (ADG, g/d), crude protein (CP) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF). Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS), Classification and Regression Tree (CART), and Support Vector Regression (SVR) were used for the development of a predictive algorithm. The determination coefficient was determined over 0.90 for the MARS algorithm. Overall, the MARS algorithm was a reliable predictive model for DMI prediction in the Pelibuey sheep.

Objectives: In the animal model, we aim to evaluate the bone behavior in two innovative and different laser-treated (L1-L2) titanium implants compared to sandblasted and acid-etched (SBAE) used as control.
Materials And Methods: A total of twenty-seven dental implants (8.5 × 3.

This study investigated the impact of glycerol supplementation on the expression of markers associated with follicular proliferation, maturation and apoptosis in Pelibuey ewes synchronised with long (11 days) and short (5 days) protocols using intravaginal fluorogestone acetate (FGA). Forty-five adult Pelibuey ewes were divided into five groups: control, short protocol with or without glycerol and long protocol with or without glycerol. Follicular dynamics were monitored by ultrasonography, and granulosa cells were collected 15 h after the onset of oestrus to analyse gene expression using RT-qPCR of genes associated with proliferation, maturation, and apoptosis.

Recent studies have shown the anti-methanogenic capacity of Astragalus mollissimus (AM), a plant found in semiarid environments, which is known to produce 3-nitro-1-propionic acid (3NPA) and 3-nitropropanol (3NPOH). However, little is known about the effects of direct supplementation in basal diets, given that it is also known to cause cattle poisoning by nitro toxins in rangelands. In the present study, two experiments were carried out to determine CH and volatile fatty acid production, animal performance and the presence of nitrocompounds in blood.

In dairy sheep, optimum nutrition is required to maintain a positive energy and nitrogen balance, and therefore, achieve adequate performance levels. In this sense, supplemental rumen-protected methionine (RPMet) has been a nutritional strategy used to improve the availability of amino acids in sheep for milk production. The aim of the current study is to assess the effect of RPMet supplementation on the milk yield and milk composition of crossbred dairy sheep.

Background: The selection of sheep with high genetic resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes is a sustainable alternative for parasite control.
Aim: This study was performed to categorize three breeds of hair sheep according to their resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes during the peripartum period using hematocrit (HCT) and to compare these results with categorizations derived from the nematode eggs per gram of feces (EPG).
Methods: Parasitological records from two studies involving 46 Katahdin × Pelibuey and 25 Blackbelly ewes were used, along with information from pregnancy (week 22) to lactation (week 13) of a flock of 31 Pelibuey ewes.
