An intraocular lens (IOL) replaces the natural crystalline lens during cataract surgery, and although the vast majority of implants have simple optics, "advanced technology" IOLs have multifocal and extended depth of focus (EDOF) properties. Optical concepts are evaluated here, with image contrast, focal range, and unwanted visual phenomena being the primary concerns. Visual phenomena with earlier bifocal diffractive lenses led to alternative diffractive designs (trifocals, etc.) and also to exploring increasing the depth of focus for monofocal IOLs using refractive methods, where although the defocus range might be more modest, visual phenomena are much less obvious. The designs cover a range of possibilities that might provide the best overall vision for patients with differing motivations, needs, and sensitivity to visual side effects.

Across various types of learning and memory, when a new training session follows a previous one after a certain temporal interval, the previously acquired learning can be disrupted-an effect known as retrograde interference (RI) or catastrophic forgetting. This disruption is thought to result from disrupting interactions between the learning of the first-trained task and the learning of the second-trained task while the former has not yet stabilized. Such destructive interactions have been considered characteristic not only of RI but also of related phenomena.

Existing microscopy approaches are often unable to identify and contextualize rare but biologically meaningful events due to limitations associated with simultaneously achieving both high-resolution imaging and a cm-scale field of view. Here, we present multiscale cleared tissue axially swept light-sheet microscopy (MCT-ASLM), a platform combining cm-scale imaging with targeted high-resolution interrogation of intact tissues in human-guided or autonomous modes. Capable of capturing fields of view up to 21 mm at micron-scale resolution, MCT-ASLM can seamlessly transition to a targeted imaging mode with an isotropic resolution that approaches ∼300 nm.

In contrast to low-density lipoproteins which are atherogenic, high-density lipoproteins (HDL) have been conceptualized as beneficial modulators of adverse pathophysiological phenomena along arterial walls. The HDLs are characterized by highly complex and varied molecular cargoes that include apoproteins, enzymes, microRNAs, bioactive lipids and phospholipids, components of complement, and immune factors, among others. These cargo components determine its functionality.

Introduction: Understanding foot joint loading during different dynamic activities is essential information for guiding exercise progression in rehabilitation. While walking and running biomechanics are well studied, joint-specific kinetic data during a single leg drop and hop task, often used in rehabilitation, are lacking. This study aimed to evaluate (1) the kinetic behavior of the ankle, Chopart, Lisfranc, and MTP-1 joints during a drop-hop task under different visual constraints and (2) to contextualize these findings by comparing them with heel-strike running, to assess the relative loading demands of the drop-hop task.
