The black soldier fly, , is a voracious scavenger of various organic materials; therefore, it could be exploited as a biological system for processing daily food waste. In order to survey novel hydrolytic enzymes, we constructed a fosmid metagenome library using unculturable intestinal microorganisms from . Through functional screening of the library on carboxymethyl cellulose plates, we identified a fosmid clone, the product of which displayed hydrolytic activity. Sequence analysis of the fosmid revealed a novel mannan-degrading gene, , composed of 1185 base pairs encoding 394 amino acids, with a deduced 20-amino-acid -terminal signal peptide sequence. The conceptual translation of exhibited the highest identity (78%) to endo-1,4-β-mannosidase from . Phylogenetic and domain analyses indicated that encodes a novel mannanase with a glycoside hydrolase family 26 domain. The recombinant protein rManEM6 showed its highest activity at 40 °C and pH 7.0, and it remained stable in the range of pH 5-10.0. rManEM6 hydrolyzed substrates with β-1,4-glycosidic mannoses, showing maximum enzymatic activity toward locust bean gum galactomannan, while it did not hydrolyze -nitrophenyl-β-pyranosides, demonstrating endo-form mannosidase activity. rManEM6 was highly stable under stringent conditions, including those of polar organic solvents, as well as reducing and denaturing reagents. Therefore, ManEM6 may be an attractive candidate for the degradation of mannan under high-organic-solvent and protein-denaturing processes in the food and feed industries.

Background: Sarcomas are rare cancer with a heterogeneous group of tumors. They affect both genders across all age groups and present significant heterogeneity, with more than 70 histological subtypes. Despite tailored treatments, the high metastatic potential of sarcomas remains a major factor in poor patient survival, as metastasis is often the leading cause of death.

High rates of mortality of the common cockle, , have occurred in the Wash Estuary, UK, since 2008. A previous study linked the mortalities to a novel genotype of , with a strong correlation between cockle moribundity and the presence of . Here, we characterize a novel iridovirus, identified by chance during metagenomic sequencing of a gradient purification of cells, with the presence also correlated to cockle moribundity.

Previous studies have demonstrated that metric learning approaches yield remarkable performance in the field of kinship verification. Nevertheless, a prevalent limitation of most existing methods lies in their over-reliance on learning exclusively from specified types of given kin data, which frequently results in information isolation. Although generative-based metric learning methods present potential solutions to this problem, they are hindered by substantial computational costs.

A Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium, designated 14752, was isolated from a saline lake in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The strain was subjected to a taxonomic study using a polyphasic approach. Strain 14752 was able to grow at 4-40 ℃ (optimum 28 ℃), pH 6.
