Aim: To highlight the use of corpus linguistics for analysing language data and to provide a worked example of this approach in nursing research.
Design: Methodology discussion paper.
Methods: This paper introduces corpus linguistics as a distinct approach to undertaking qualitative research in nursing. Examples are provided to illustrate how corpus linguistics can be applied to explore contemporary concepts in healthcare.
Conclusion: Corpus linguistics offers a structured, robust alternative to traditional qualitative analysis. When combined with critical social theory, it is ideal for exploring power dynamics and discourse, making it a valuable approach for nursing and healthcare related research.
Implications For Nursing: Nurse researchers often work with large amounts of textual data. Corpus linguistics provides a rigorous framework for analysing such data sets, which can be used for various studies.
Impact: Corpus linguistics analytics can enhance nursing research by uncovering language use patterns that can help generate knowledge to inform nursing practice and policy development.
Patient Or Public Contribution: None.

Large language models (LLMs) can emulate many aspects of human cognition and have been heralded as a potential paradigm shift. They are proficient in chat-based conversation, but little is known about their ability to simulate spoken conversation. We investigated whether LLMs can simulate spoken human conversation.

Previous studies have demonstrated that women in male-dominated fields face a challenging "double bind"-they must display traditionally masculine traits while maintaining feminine qualities. This study provides a corpus-assisted discourse analysis of gender performances by male and female entrepreneurs on Twitter (now X) at three levels: (1) issues, (2) personality traits, and (3) linguistic styles. The primary purpose is to examine how the "double bind" manifests in male and female entrepreneurs' social media performances.

The speech recognition task of the HaiNan dialect faces significant differences in phonology, intonation, and grammatical structure among dialects, which in turn show significant regionalization characteristics, which makes the task of dialect-to-Mandarin conversion more complex. Currently, the research on the HaiNan dialect speech recognition is still in its early stages and lacks sufficient corpus resources, especially in the task of multi-dialect recognition. Traditional models are difficult to solve with the problem of data scarcity and diverse dialect characteristics effectively.

This study examines how language functions impact linguistic features in academic and entertainment registers. Using multi-dimensional analysis (MDA) and computing entropy values, we analyze a large-scale Chinese corpus consisting of over 19 million tokens from 1000 texts, including academic journals, dissertations, entertainment magazines, and novellas. We identify key language functions that shape linguistic features within these registers.
