Article Abstract

We conducted a targeted literature review on patient burden during the interictal period of migraine. The results of the literature review revealed that: (1) migraine-associated burden persists into the interictal period and is not confined to the headache episodes themselves; (2) anxiety over the possible recurrence of headache episodes is a factor that reduces daily activities and quality of life (QOL); and (3) prophylactic treatment with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) antibody drugs may reduce the burden during the interictal period. From these findings, it is considered important in migraine treatment to identify the unmet needs of patients, including the burden during the interictal period, and to select an appropriate treatment method based on the burden experienced by individual patients.

Accurate early prediction of epileptic seizures is crucial for improving patients' quality of life. However, existing seizure prediction methods often rely on large-scale labeled datasets and face challenges in generalization and real-time performance. To address these issues, this study proposes an efficient seizure prediction framework that achieves high performance even with limited labeled data, significantly reducing dependence on extensive annotations.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most prevalent causes of dementia, characterized by progressive memory loss and cognitive decline. Abnormal electrophysiological patterns, especially interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) and high-frequency oscillations (HFOs), have been observed in mouse models of AD and are suggested to contribute to cognitive dysfunction. However, comprehensive evaluations of IEDs across different brain regions are limited, and their impact on cognitive performance and neuropathology remains unclear, particularly in more complex AD models with relevant comorbidities.

The existing epilepsy seizure detection algorithms have problems such as overfitting and poor generalization ability due to high reliance on manual labeling of electroencephalogram's data and data imbalance between seizure and interictal periods. An unsupervised learning detection method for epileptic seizure that jointed graph attention network (GAT) and Transformer framework (GAT-T) was proposed. In this method, channel correlations were adaptively learned by GAT encoder.

The interactions between the central nervous system (CNS) and the immune system suggest that immune mechanisms may be effective in the pathogenesis of epilepsy and epileptic seizures. Although studies on the natural immune response and epilepsy are continuing, it is not yet clear whether the interaction of the current immune system is due to epilepsy itself or antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), since epileptic patients also use AEDs There are a limited number of studies that have reported an increased incidence of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) in patients during levetiracetam (LEV) treatment. Therefore, we aimed to report our experience regarding the effect of LEV monotherapy on the complete blood count (CBC), immunoglobulin (Ig) levels, and lymphocyte subgroups in the interictal period in children and adolescents with epilepsy.

An extreme type of new onset refractory status epilepticus with stimulus-induced seizures in pharmacological isoelectric states.

Objective: Status epilepticus (SE) is a common neurological emergency associated with high morbidity and mortality. SE is classified as refractory when it persists despite benzodiazepine and second-line antiseizure medication. Managing refractory SE in the intensive care setting often requires high doses of sedative drugs, which can induce burst suppression or complete electrical suppression (amplitude < 10 μV).
