This paper presents a new approach to measuring eyelid movement using millimeter wave (mmW) radar technology. A two-step method is proposed, involving the observation of a small resolution cell corresponding to the monitored eye and the evaluation of the phase evolution over the measurement period. Simulations are conducted to support radar system optimization and data interpretation with a focus on detecting eyelid movement patterns and compensating for interference from other parts of the body. The feasibility of using this method with eyeglasses is also explored. The proposed technique's advantages and limitations are discussed in comparison with existing measurement alternatives. The characteristics of eyelid dynamics, including blink frequency, regularity, duration, and velocity can be used to assess neurological conditions and driver drowsiness.

Periorbital defects resulting from oncologic resections, trauma, or congenital malformations pose a complex reconstructive challenge, due to the need to simultaneously restore eyelid function and facial esthetics. We present the case of a male patient in his seventh decade of life with a right orbitomalar squamous cell carcinoma, who underwent a wide oncologic resection involving the upper and lower eyelids, as well as the malar and infraorbital regions. Reconstruction was performed using a radial free forearm flap from the left arm, including the palmaris longus tendon, which was strategically anchored to the medial canthus and orbital rim to provide dynamic eyelid support.

Introduction: Dry eye disease (DED) affects over 300 million people worldwide and continues to pose diagnostic challenges due to fluctuating symptoms and reliance on static, clinic-based tests. Conventional methods such as Schirmer's test and tear osmolarity provide only episodic insights, failing to capture the dynamic behavior of the tear film. Recently, biosensor-embedded wearable devices, including smart contact lenses, eyelid-mounted patches, and sensor-equipped spectacles, have emerged, enabling real-time and continuous tracking of tear metrics and blink patterns.

Background: The ocular surface microbiota (OSM) is important for eye health, and variations in OSM composition have been associated with multiple diseases in humans. Studies of OSM-disease dynamics in humans are confounded by lifestyle factors. Animal models provide a complementary approach to understanding biological systems, free from many confounds of human studies.

Background: Double eyelid surgery is a popular cosmetic surgery among Asian populations. Although the recovery period has passed after surgery, some patients still have an unnatural appearance with deep creases, leading to unsatisfactory surgical results. Patients hopes to achieve a shallow and more natural double eyelid creases through repair surgery.

Environmental noise can severely impair acoustic communication, thereby affecting key behaviors such as predator avoidance, territory defense, and reproduction. Persistent noise in some habitats is thought to have favored the emergence of multimodal communication systems. Multimodal signals, which integrate information across several sensory channels, can enhance signal detection and improve message clarity in challenging environments.
