Background: Drug-related deaths, including accidental and intentional overdose and other drug-related causes, are among the leading causes of maternal mortality in the United States.
Analysis: Addiction care providers can contribute to efforts to decrease maternal mortality related to substance use disorder. In this report, we review current research to inform the care of pregnant and parenting people with substance use disorder (SUD) to address rising drug-related deaths.
Conclusions And Relevance: A multidisciplinary approach to the care of pregnant people with SUD should include prioritizing SUD and mental health treatment, helping them access services such as housing, transportation, and nutrition programs, and providing extended care for at least the year after end of a pregnancy. Efforts to improve care for childbearing people promote health and well-being for everyone.

Background: Sierra Leone has the world's third highest incidence of maternal mortality, with 443 deaths per 100,000 live births. Strengthening the country's midwifery workforce is essential to providing adequate maternal healthcare and reducing preventable perinatal mortality. In support of this goal, we developed and implemented a midwifery preceptor program (MPP) to train experienced midwives to effectively mentor new and student midwives.

Background: Maternal healthcare (MHC) in Cameroon reflects the persistent challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa, where high maternal mortality continues despite improved service utilization, stressing inequitable effective coverage (EC). This study applied EC cascade analysis-including service contact, continuity, and input-adjusted coverage-to quantify geographic and socioeconomic disparities, informing equity-focused strategies to dismantle structural barriers in the MHC continuum.
Methods: We combined population and health facility data (2018 Cameroon Demographic and Health Survey and 2015 Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care Assessment) to estimate the input-adjusted coverage of antenatal care (ANC) and intra-and postpartum care (IPC).

Aim: To determine the strengths and weaknesses of the midwifery education program at three IMC-supported schools and their associated clinical sites in South Sudan.
Background: Evidence indicates that investing in midwifery education can substantially reduce maternal mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Design: A cross-sectional mixed methods assessment.

Problem: Preeclampsia (PE) is a leading cause of perinatal maternal and fetal mortality. Clinical and pathological studies suggest that placental and decidual cell dysfunction may contribute to this condition. However, the pathogenesis of PE remains poorly understood.
