Background: New-onset atrial fibrillation, a condition associated with adverse outcomes in the short and long term, is common in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs). Identifying patients at high risk could inform trials of preventive interventions and help to target such interventions. We aimed to develop and externally validate a prediction model for new-onset atrial fibrillation in patients admitted to ICUs.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in adults, with incidence increasing with age. Cognitive impairment (CoI) and dementia share risk factors with AF. Meta-analyses indicate that AF increases the risk of CoI by 2.

Background: Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) utilize "E-liquids" in order to generate "E-vapor", an inhalable aerosolized mixture containing nicotine and flavors. Flavored ENDS are very popular among teens who vape, however, the possible cardiac electrophysiological harm of inhalation exposure to flavored ENDS are not fully understood.
Objective: To test if inhalation exposure to flavoring carbonyls in e-liquids compromises mitochondrial integrity, increases oxidative stress, and leads to cardiac electrophysiological toxicity.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent and complex cardiac arrhythmia requiring multifaceted management strategies. This review explores the integration of large language models (LLMs) and machine learning into AF care, with a focus on clinical utility, privacy preservation, and ethical deployment. Federated and transfer learning methods have enabled high-performance predictive modeling across distributed datasets without compromising data security.

Cardiac Ablation Solutions, Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA.
Background: Catheter ablation is beneficial in patients with symptomatic persistent atrial fibrillation (PerAF), and pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a promising energy source to safely and durably create ablation lesions. However, catheter-specific "PFA waveforms and designs" result in effectiveness and safety profiles that are not transferable to other PFA technologies. A head-to-head comparison between the dual-energy, wide-footprint lattice-tip (Sphere-9, Medtronic) and pentaspline PFA catheter (Farawave, Boston Scientific) is not yet available.
