Single-agent osimertinib has improved outcomes in EGFR-mutated lung cancer patients with brain metastases (BMs), but still, 40 % of them will experience an intracranial progression. We performed a systematic review to evaluate the role of brain radiotherapy upfront plus osimertinib. We evaluated articles comparing the use of osimertinib versus osimertinib plus brain radiotherapy. We included 897 patients from nine retrospective studies. Patients treated with combination therapy had an improvement in intracranial progression-free survival (HR 0.76; 95 % CI 0.61-0.94) and overall survival (HR 0.56; 95 % CI 0.36-0.87) with an acceptable safety profile. Osimertinib with upfront brain radiotherapy may be a suitable first-line treatment option for EGFR mutated patients with BMs at diagnosis. The main limitations of this analysis are the retrospective nature and the inability to control for a single variable of interest. Despite that, the combination of osimertinib and upfront brain radiotherapy is a treatment strategy that deserves further prospective trials.

Purpose: Cranial irradiation is associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) deficits in childhood cancer survivors. We investigated the relationship between radiation dose to brain substructures and HRQoL in children with brain tumors treated with proton beam therapy (PBT).
Methods: Data were obtained from children in the Pediatric Proton/Photon Consortium Registry who received PBT for primary brain tumors between 2015 and 2021.

A new whole-body exposure facility for a randomized, double-blind, cross-over provocation study investigating possible effects of 50 Hz magnetic field exposure on sleep and markers of Alzheimer's disease has been developed and dosimetrically analyzed. The exposure facility was custom-tailored for the sleep laboratory where the study was carried out and enables magnetic flux densities of up to 30 μT with a maximum field inhomogeneity of less than ± 20%. Exposure is applied fully software-controlled and in a blinded and randomized manner.

Introduction: Brain metastasis from gastric cancer is rare (0.5%) and often occurs with metastasis to other organs. We herein describe a very rare patient with a solitary brain metastasis from residual gastric cancer with no metastasis to other organs.

Introduction Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is widely regarded as the standard of care after the resection of brain metastases in order to reduce local cavity recurrence risk. The objective of this study was to explore the reproducibility of published outcomes for patients receiving post-operative stereotactic radiosurgery (cavity SRS) in a National Health Service (NHS) setting for a non-selective series of patients. For our service, the median interval between surgery to cavity SRS (cSRS) is eight weeks, whereas similar timelines have been found to have a deleterious impact on survival in the published literature.

Treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) has been a great challenge before medical fraternity since last century owing to a median survival of less than 15 months, despite of intensive therapy. Neurosurgeries, intense chemotherapy, advanced radiotherapy, and targeted therapies have bought some extension to the life of GBM patients. Combination and targeted therapies could bring a concrete approach to tackle the complexities of GBM treatment.
