The global epidemic of tobacco-related diseases continues to be a major health and economic issue. The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC), adopted in 2003, is a legally binding treaty aimed at reducing the demand for and supply of tobacco products, with 183 Parties, comprising countries and the EU, covering more than 90% of the world's population. This Policy View presents an analysis of the global patterns of tobacco use, the effects of the WHO FCTC and measures implemented for tobacco control, barriers to progress, and the principal ways forward.

Analyzing stem cell training businesses for United States (US) physicians shows the use of sensationalized marketing language emphasizing profits and growth with many of the instructors affiliated with clinics providing unproven therapies. We argue that many current pedagogical offerings for physicians interested in stem cell interventions are likely to offer questionable training and outline red flags for physicians interested in stem cell therapies.

This expert review examines the expanding use of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in younger patients with bicuspid aortic valves (BAV), highlighting midterm outcomes, including elevated mortality, stroke, and pacemaker dependency, compared with surgical aortic valve replacement. The untested and unproven long-term effectiveness and durability of TAVR in patients aged <70 years and the growing use of "valve-in-valve" for surgical aortic valve replacement bioprosthetic degeneration and TAVR failure are also highlighted. Summarizing recent observational studies, registry data, and the limited randomized evidence available, the author calls for new rigorous, long-term randomized controlled trials before broader adoption of TAVR and valve-in-valve TAVR in these populations, and urges the United States Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to align policy with evidence challenging the erosion of guideline-directed care driven by market forces.

The US (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-accelerated approval pathway facilitates early access to oncology drugs based on surrogate endpoints, with required confirmatory post-marketing trials. However, regulatory decisions vary globally, with some drugs withdrawn in the US remaining approved in Japan. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of Japanese professional society guidelines, evaluating recommendations for seven accelerated approval cancer drugs withdrawn from the US market but retained in Japan.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are expected to transform the photovoltaic market; however, their unproven operational stability requires urgent attention, particularly accelerated aging tests. Currently, illumination is the primary stressor in such tests. In this work, we present an accelerated aging procedure consisting of prolonged forward biasing followed by a dark storage (postbias rest) phase, conducted entirely in the dark.
