Introduction: The impact of sex on quality of life (QoL) and long-term mortality after thoracic aortic surgery is incompletely understood. We investigated whether sex-related differences in these outcomes exist following surgery.
Methods: Patients undergoing thoracic aortic surgery between 2004-2023 were identified using the Manitoba Thoracic Aortic Database, which was linked to population-level registries in the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy.

Cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is one of the most prevalent long-term complications in pediatric cancer survivors reaching adulthood. However, very few studies have evaluated the long-term effects of cisplatin administered to the young population on the peripheral nervous system and assessed whether these effects are sex-dependent. Thus, we aimed to assess baseline mechanical withdrawal thresholds (a CIPN measurement), the density of CGRP and PGP9.

Autophagy is critical for the homeostasis and function of neurons, as misregulation of autophagy has been implicated in age-related neurodegenerative diseases and neuron-specific knockdown of early autophagy genes results in early neurodegeneration in mice. We previously found that autophagosome formation decreases with age in murine neurons. Sex differences have been intensely studied in neurodegenerative diseases, but whether sex differences influence autophagy at the neuronal level have not been investigated.

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most frequent head and neck cancers. The 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO) mouse model of oral carcinogenesis is a well-established model to investigate the mechanism behind OSCC development, including epigenetic alterations. Studies have shown that histone acetylation is a key regulator of gene expression and may play a role in such a tumor.

Background: Differences between female and male patients may influence the outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, knowledge regarding known sex differences in TAVR procedures among Chinese people remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the impact of sex-related differences on reverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling following TAVR in the Chinese population.
