Atrial esophageal fistula (AEF) is a rare but life-threatening complication of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation, linked to thermal injuries by conventional radiofrequency (RF) and cryo-balloon (CB) ablation techniques. AEF risk can be mitigated by considering several measures such as tailored power settings of ablation technique, mechanical displacement of esophagus, esophageal cooling, and alternative ablative techniques and energy sources. We review the current knowledge regarding AEF and esophageal thermal injuries as well as discussing the current research regarding a novel none-to-minimally thermal, myocardial tissue-selective modality known as pulsed-field ablation (PFA) which may mitigate such risks.

Various dressings have been developed for the prevention and treatment of wound infections, but the complex structures and manufacturing processes designed to achieve powerful functionalities have impeded their clinical application. Herein, a dynamic injectable photothermal/chemotherapeutic hydrogel has been facilely established through mixing gellan gum (GG), indocyanine green (ICG) and amikacin (AMI) aqueous solutions at 80°C and cooling to room temperature. The hydrogel displayed a precise structure with 1.

Contrast therapy (CT), alternating cooling and heating therapy, has been investigated for its potential benefits in treating soft tissue injuries in sports. This study examines the efficacy of CT in enhancing skin scald repair. We established a standardized rat scald burn model, and randomized the subjects to three groups: CT, cold therapy (COT), and untreated model control (MC).

In this study, we developed a quaternized chitosan-based nanocomposite hydrogel by combining dual-network and nanocomposite technology. Firstly, quaternized chitosan (QCS) and chitin nanowhiskers (ChWs) were synthesized and characterized. The quaternized chitosan-based nanocomposite hydrogels were constructed by the radical polymerization of acrylic acid (AA) and acrylamide (AM) and the subsequent cooling process in the presence of QCS, ChWs, and Zn.
