In December 2018, an outbreak of Enteritidis infections was identified in Canada by whole-genome sequencing (WGS). An investigation was initiated to identify the source of the illnesses, which proved challenging and complex. Microbiological hypothesis generation methods included comparisons of isolate sequence data to historical domestic outbreaks and international repositories. Epidemiological hypothesis generation methods included routine case interviews, open-ended centralized re-interviewing, thematic analysis of open-ended interview data, collection of purchase records, a grocery store site visit, analytic comparison to healthy control groups, and case-case analyses. Food safety hypothesis testing methods included food sample collection and analysis, and traceback investigations. Overall, 83 cases were identified across seven provinces, with onset dates from 6 November 2018 to 7 May 2019. Case ages ranged from 1 to 88 years; 60% (50/83) were female; 39% (22/56) were hospitalized; and three deaths were reported. Brand X profiteroles and eclairs imported from Thailand were identified as the source of the outbreak, and eggs from an unregistered facility were hypothesized as the likely cause of contamination. This study aims to describe the outbreak investigation and highlight the multiple hypothesis generation methods that were employed to identify the source.

The genus Flapocephalus Deshmukh, 1979, is a little-known group of lecanicephalidean cestodes parasitizing cowtail rays (genus Pastinachus Rüppell) mainly in the Indo-Pacific region. Since the erection of the genus, with Flapocephalus trygonis Deshmukh, 1979, as the type species, and the description of a second species, Flapocephalus saurashtri Shinde and Deshmukh, 1979, both from Pastinachus sephen (Fabricius) from India, reports of this genus have been restricted mainly to brief mentions or discussion of its validity and taxonomic placement. More recently, phylogenetic analyses based on molecular sequence data that included specimens of Flapocephalus have supported Flapocephalus as a distinct genus allied with the Polypocephalidae Meggitt, 1924.

Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) pathogenesis is multi-factorial, involving synergistic interactions among genetic susceptibility, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, and environmental exposures. Notably, specific multi-generational families exhibit NPC incidence substantially exceeding both sporadic cases and general genetic susceptibility cohorts, demonstrating Mendelian inheritance patterns. This supports the hypothesis that high penetrance pathogenic variants dominate disease initiation and progression in familial NPC.

Hypothesis: On highly cleaned planar surfaces submerged in highly cleaned water, flat surface nanobubbles with an angle of attachment of ∼15 are observed - never on engineering surfaces submerged in plain water, though here unidentified cavitation nuclei are always present and cause low tensile strength.
Experiments: In the present study, surface nanobubbles are generated by standard experimental techniques on a polished steel surface, and we find that the shape and the angles of attachment of the bubbles are influenced by the local substrate topography. These observations align with the theory of non-adsorbed liquid zones, which explains a surface nanobubble as a bubble with a skin of contamination molecules, which bond along the bubble rim at a contact angle of ∼14.

Introduction And Hypothesis: To translate and perform cultural adaptation of the Pelvic Floor Dysfunction-SENTINEL (PFD-SENTINEL) screening tool into Turkish and to establish its reliability and validity for female athletes.
Methods: The study included 200 female athletes (mean age 22 ± 4 years). The translation of the PFD-SENTINEL, which comprised the symptoms related to PFD and item sections related to general risk factors and sports-related risk factors, was performed in accordance with international recommendations.

Echinocandins, which target the fungal β-1,3-glucan synthase (Fks), are essential for treating invasive fungal infections, yet resistance is increasingly reported. While resistance typically arises through mutations in Fks hotspots, emerging evidence suggests a contributing role of changes in membrane sterol composition due to mutations. Here, we present a clinical case of () in which combined mutations in and , but not alone, appear to confer echinocandin resistance.
