Article Abstract

Background: Despite the effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation (CR), the actual participation rate in CR is low. While home-based CR offers a viable alternative, it faces challenges in participation due to factors such as a lack of self-motivation and fear of exercising without supervision. Utilizing a mobile healthcare application (app) during counseling may be an effective strategy for patients. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess whether 6 weeks of home-based CR with exercise readjustment using a mobile app is an effective therapy for patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Methods: Post-AMI patients eligible for home-based CR were randomized into the intervention group (CR-Mobile) and the control group, which followed the usual home-based CR protocol (CR-Usual). Both groups participated in a 6-week home-based CR program, with exercise readjustment and encouragement carried out every 2 weeks. The CR-Mobile group was supervised using data recorded in the mobile app, while the CR-Usual group was supervised via phone consultations. The primary outcome measured was maximal oxygen consumption (VO).

Results: Within-group comparisons showed significant improvements in VO (P = 0.011 vs. P = 0.020) and METs (P = 0.011 vs. P = 0.011) for both groups.

Conclusions: These findings suggest that a 6-week home-based CR program with exercise readjustment using a mobile app can potentially enhance exercise capacity as effectively as verbal supervision.

This study determined the effect of inspiratory muscle training (IMT), a non-pharmacological treatment on pulmonary function, inspiratory muscle strength and autonomic modulation measured by heart rate variability in obese young adults. The study hypothesized that IMT improves inspiratory muscle strength and enhances autonomic modulation in obese young adults. Nineteen obese young adults (body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m², according to the Asian-Pacific cutoff points), aged 18-25 years, were assigned to either a control group (n = 9) or an inspiratory muscle training (IMT) group (n = 10).

Integrating robotics in the operating room (OR) may revolutionize surgical practice by providing surgeons with enhanced precision, dexterity, and stability. Traditional operative microscopes often lead to significant musculoskeletal discomfort among surgeons due to prolonged, unergonomic postures. The advent of a robot-controlled exoscope (RS) offers a promising solution to these ergonomic challenges by enabling hands-free operation through head gestures.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether the variable dose-response model, with estimates free to vary over time, can account for overreaching during intensified training in swimmers.

Methods: A time-varying model using a recursive least squares algorithm was applied to data from eight swimmers collected over 61 weeks, comprising five training cycles. Each data set included daily training load calculated from pool kilometers and dry land training equivalents, and performance measured twice weekly from 50 m trials.

Purpose: Circadian clocks are evolved endogenous biological systems that communicate with environmental cues to optimize physiological processes, such as the sleep-wake cycle, which is nearly related to quality of life. Sleep disorders can be treated using pharmacological strategies targeting melatonin, orexin, or core clock genes. Exercise has been widely explored as a behavioral treatment because it challenges homeostasis in the human body and affects the regulation of core clock genes.
