This commentary examines the formation and impact of the Macon County Community Partners Taskforce, which was established to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Alabama's Black Belt region. Background: Few studies have examined how professional caregivers perceive the relocation of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities from the family home to specialised residential settings.

Method: We conducted semi-structured interviews with eight professional caregivers, exploring their experiences of admitting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities into residential care. Transcripts were analysed using Mayring's qualitative content analysis.

In the essay "An Elusive Promise: Protecting US Workers from Excessive Heat," the author (who is also the author of this commentary) addresses the ever-increasing hazard that exposure to excessive heat poses to workers, both internationally and in the United States, and details the history of federal efforts to address the problem, dating back to the passage of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (the "OSH Act") in 1970. Following years of dogged advocacy by the worker safety community, those efforts culminated in August 2024 in the publication in the Federal Register of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings. A few months later, Donald Trump was elected president.

Patient engagement (PE) has evolved from an emerging concept to a fundamental ethos underpinning healthcare research and communication. In this commentary, we explore the historical evolution in medical research from patients being participants in clinical trials to becoming integral partners in communicating medical research findings. The progression from "why" to "how" PE should occur represents a fundamental shift in the medical publication landscape.
