The presence of humins during the conversion of concentrated fructose presents a major obstacle in the large-scale production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from fructose. Herein, we reported a boron-doped graphitic carbon nitride sulfonated (BGCN-SOH) as an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of HMF from fructose. The BGCN-SOH catalyst structures were analyzed using various characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), elemental mapping analysis, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The BGCN-SOH catalyst was evaluated for the synthesis of HMF from fructose. We investigated the influence of catalyst performance, including solvent reactions, catalyst loading, substrates, and volume of solvent to optimize reaction conditions. As a result, the yield of HMF was obtained at 88 % within 5 h when using 30 mg of catalyst. The study of catalyst activity involved examining reactions that allowed recovery and reuse. The research findings offer a method for producing HMF with exceptional efficiency using solid catalysts.

For the first time, supported ionic liquid polymers (SILPs) incorporating sulfone and dimethyl sulfoxide units are synthesized and tested as bifunctional heterogeneous materials in the valorization of biomass-derived sugars (fructose and glucose). These catalysts exhibit remarkable efficiency in fructose dehydration, yielding 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) at gram scale. The optimal ratio of sulfone to dimethyl sulfoxide groups is determined to be critical for reaction selectivity.

Synthesis of combined Brønsted and Lewis acid sites in SBA-15 by Zr and Sn incorporation onto the mesoporous support, followed by a sulfation procedure to get enhanced acid catalysts for fructose-to-5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) selective dehydration, is here studied. Different preparation methods are used to attain the Sulfated Sn-Zr-SBA-15 material with adequate combination of Brönsted and Lewis acidity. Samples are characterized by using different analytical and spectroscopic techniques, results indicating a correlation between the preparation procedure and the acid characteristics of the materials.

This study offers a comparative assessment of eight monofloral honey samples, representing five botanical varieties: acacia, linden, rapeseed, lavender, and thyme.
