Introduction: Neurosurgical practices have evolved from exploratory techniques requiring extensive craniotomies to more refined methods facilitated by advanced imaging technologies. The advent of neuronavigation systems and modern imaging modalities has enabled precise localization of intracranial lesions, allowing for minor skin and craniotomy flaps, thereby promoting minimally invasive approaches. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of open-source Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) software in preoperative planning for keyhole neurosurgical procedures, particularly in resource-limited settings where traditional navigation systems may not be available.

Navigating changes in surface height is a component of daily living, requiring different musculoskeletal demands compared with level-ground walking. Individuals with transtibial amputation commonly adopt a hip-dominant strategy to compensate for the absence of active ankle plantar flexor power. Recent tests of overground walking with a direct control myoelectric bionic prosthesis found that participants exhibited similar prosthesis torques and powers to their passive devices, likely due to persistent motor memory.

For over two decades, image-based profiling has revolutionized cellular phenotype analysis. Image-based profiling processes rich, high-throughput, microscopy data into unbiased measurements that reveal phenotypic patterns powerful for drug discovery, functional genomics, and cell state classification. Here, we review the evolving computational landscape of image-based profiling, detailing current procedures, discussing limitations, and highlighting future development directions.

Background: Optical navigation systems can provide real-time visualization of the positional relationship between surgical instruments and patient anatomy, making them suitable for assisting in puncture localization during percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED). However, current research on optically-navigated puncture localization during PTED is still limited, with high equipment costs and complex operational techniques being the main barriers to widespread adoption. 3D Slicer is a powerful open-source medical image analysis and visualization platform that can be integrated with external optical trackers to construct a low-cost optical navigation system for assisted puncture procedures.
