Objectives: Antibiotic resistance towards penicillin has been attempted to counter by chemically modifying ampicillin through the conjugation with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The current study optimizes the conditions for synthesizing and characterizing AgNP-ampicillin to quantify the conjugation extent, evaluate the antibacterial efficacy, and explore the underlying antibacterial mechanisms.
Materials And Methods: AgNPs were synthesized from silver nitrate by chemical reduction method, silica-coated with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and amine functionalized by (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), which was then conjugated with ampicillin via the carbodiimide chemistry.

Biofilms are a primary form of device-associated infections and typically exhibit high tolerance to antimicrobial agents. In biofilms formed by multiple microbial species, microorganisms may show even greater tolerance, complicating treatment. There is evidence that meropenem (MEPM) tolerance in is increased in dual-species biofilms with , and effective treatments have not been established.

Peripheral sensory neurons regenerate their axons after injury to regain function, but this ability declines with age. The mechanisms behind this decline are not fully understood. While excessive production of endothelin 1 (ET-1), a potent vasoconstrictor, is linked to many diseases that increase with age, the role of ET-1 and its receptors in axon regeneration is unknown.

Influenza virus neuraminidase (NA) is a crucial target for protective antibodies, yet the development of recombinant NA protein as a vaccine has been held back by instability and variable expression. We have taken a pragmatic approach to improving expression and stability of NA by grafting antigenic surface loops from low-expressing NA proteins onto the scaffold of high-expressing counterparts. The resulting hybrid proteins retained the antigenic properties of the loop donor while benefiting from the high-yield expression, stability, and tetrameric structure of the loop recipient.

Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) act as a vital player in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) and have received widespread attention in the treatment of cancer in recent times. Nevertheless, simultaneously inducing TAM repolarization and strengthening their phagocytic ability on cancer cells is still a significant challenge. Ferroptosis has received widespread attention due to its lethal effects on tumor cells, but its role in TAMs and its impact on tumor progression have not yet been defined.
