During the last decade, there has been a move towards consumer-centric hearing healthcare. This is a direct result of technological advancements (e.g., merger of consumer grade hearing aids with consumer grade earphones creating a wide range of hearing devices) as well as policy changes (e.g., the U.S. Food and Drug Administration creating a new over-the-counter [OTC] hearing aid category). In addition to various direct-to-consumer (DTC) hearing devices available on the market, there are also several validated tools for the self-assessment of auditory function and the detection of ear disease, as well as tools for education about hearing loss, hearing devices, and communication strategies. Further, all can be made easily available to a wide range of people. This provides a framework and identifies tools to improve and maintain optimal auditory wellness across the adult life course. A broadly available and accessible set of tools that can be made available on a digital platform to aid adults in the assessment and as needed, the improvement, of auditory wellness is discussed.

Congenital hearing loss is a significant health problem, with a worldwide incidence of >6 per 1000 live births. Late diagnosis will delay appropriate treatment, leading to potential neurodevelopment problems. Early diagnosis requires neonatal hearing screening, where one of the most used techniques is automated Auditory Brainstem Responses (aABR).

Microtubule-actin cross-linking factor 1 (MACF1) is a large protein of the spectraplakin family, which is essential for brain development. MACF1 interacts with microtubules through the growth arrest-specific 2 (Gas2)-related (GAR) domain. Heterozygous MACF1 missense variants affecting the zinc-binding residues in this domain result in a distinctive cortical and brain stem malformation.

Prior researches on global-local processing have focused on hierarchical objects in the visual modality, while the real-world involves multisensory interactions. The present study investigated whether the simultaneous presentation of auditory stimuli influences the recognition of visually hierarchical objects. We added four types of auditory stimuli to the traditional visual hierarchical letters paradigm:no sound (visual-only), a pure tone, a spoken letter that was congruent with the required response (response-congruent), or a spoken letter that was incongruent with it (response-incongruent).

Objective: To develop and pilot test a combined-learning intervention for Tanzanian primary healthcare workers on ear and hearing care (EHC), comprising five self-led smartphone-based modules and in-person workshops.
Design: The intervention was piloted with primary healthcare workers in Tanzania. Pre- and post-training surveys assessed knowledge, confidence, and attitudes towards EHC via Likert scales.

Chronic tinnitus is a common symptom of the auditory system. Its pathophysiology remains incompletely understood, primarily due to its multifactorial etiology, which resembles that of other chronic conditions. As a result, effective clinical management requires interdisciplinary diagnostics and personalized therapeutic strategies.
