Novel tourmaline-biochar composites (TBs) were synthesized by introducing tourmaline (TM) into pomelo peel biochar (BC). The surface properties of TBs and BC were studied and the adsorption performances for Pb were investigated. Compared to pristine BC, the adsorption ability for Pb on TBs was enhanced with the increase of TM in TBs, and up to 514.62 mg/g on 5%TB. The enrichment of inorganic metals caused by TM in TBs made the precipitation and cation ion exchange become the main mechanisms in adsorbing Pb, and the amounts of adsorbing Pb by those two mechanisms on TBs were 1.10-1.48 times and 1.20-1.30 times those of BC, respectively. Furthermore, applying TBs to practical contaminated soil increased the soil pH and electrical conductivity (EC) after 15 days of incubation. The increased content of residual-Pb and reduced exchangeable-Pb and DTPA-Pb indicated that TBs were favorable for the immobilization of Pb in soil. This study gives a new perspective on the synthesis of tourmaline-biochar composite and their application in Pb-polluted water and soil.

Background: Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder caused by a mutation in the huntingtin gene on chromosome 4, leading to progressive cognitive decline, motor impairment, and functional disability. Although balance impairment is recognized in HD, its onset and evolution with disease stage remain poorly understood.
Objective: The aim was to track the onset and evolution of balance impairment in HD with progression of disease stage using the BTrackS Balance Plate.

Nanostructured cubic boron nitride (NS-cBN) has attracted significant attention due to its high hardness and excellent thermal stability, yet a systematic strategy to balance strength and toughness through atomically structural design remains elusive. Here, we integrate plasticity theory with large-scale atomistic simulations to elucidate the size-dependent roles of internal defects, i.e.

Unlabelled: Among individuals aged ≥ 40 years old, we found that after controlling for age, sex, FMI, and tissue thickness, an increase of 1kg/m of ALMI is associated with an increase in TBS of 0.058, which is approximately half of one population standard deviation, or 4.7% of the average value for TBS.

Background and objectives Esophageal motility disorders (EMDs) are a major cause of non‑obstructive dysphagia. However, regional data from eastern India are limited. This study aims to describe the spectrum of EMDs in patients with non‑obstructive dysphagia using high‑resolution manometry (HRM) at a tertiary care center in eastern India, and to compare clinical symptoms, and endoscopic and barium findings in patients with achalasia versus non‑achalasia.
