Currently, groin hernia repair is mostly performed with application of mesh prostheses fixed with or without suture. However, views on safety and efficacy of different surgical approaches are still partly discordant. In this multicentre retrospective study, three sutureless procedures, i.e., mesh fixation with glue, application of self-gripping mesh, and Trabucco's technique, were compared in 1034 patients with primary unilateral non-complicated inguinal hernia subjected to open anterior surgery. Patient-related features, comorbidities, and drugs potentially affecting the intervention outcomes were also examined. The incidence of postoperative complications, acute and chronic pain, and time until discharge were assessed. A multivariate logistic regression was used to compare the odds ratio of the surgical techniques adjusting for other risk factors. The application of standard/heavy mesh, performed in the Trabucco's technique, was found to significantly increase the odds ratio of hematomas ( = 0.014) and, most notably, of acute postoperative pain ( < 0.001). Among the clinical parameters, antithrombotic therapy and large hernia size were independent risk factors for hematomas and longer hospital stay, whilst small hernias were an independent predictor of pain. Overall, our findings suggest that the Trabucco's technique should not be preferred in patients with a large hernia and on antithrombotic therapy.

: The correlation between drugs and interstitial lung disease (ILD) is reported, but the presence of the substances of abuse in the lung as a cause of disease has never been proved. In this observational study, our aim was to evaluate a possible correlation between ILD radiological findings and cannabinoids presence in broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) or in resected lung tissue in patients with a history of cannabis smoke. : Data of patients with ILD chest CT scan findings and history of drug use, submitted to BAL (Group 1), or to lung apex removal for pneumothorax (Group 2), were retrospectively collected.

Lymphadenectomy for vulvar carcinoma is characterized by many complications. Studies have demonstrated the diagnostic accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) as a valid alternative to lymphadenectomy in the early stages of vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). : To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and accuracy, as well as the oncological outcomes of SLNB following scar injection; in addition, to assess the role of a repeat sentinel node procedure in patients with local vulvar recurrence after primary treatment.

Background: Cervical spondylitis is accompanied by segmental instability and sagittal imbalance. The purpose of this work is to conduct a search of correlation between sagittal parameters and clinical outcomes in cervical spondylitis.
Materials And Methods: The monocentric cohort study encompassed the clinical and radiological data of 59 patients who underwent reconstructive surgeries on the suboccipital, subaxial, and cervicothoracic spine.

Background: Increasingly exposed to emerging sanitary risks, extensive livestock farming systems are confronted with the imperative of incorporating biosecurity measures in their production models in order to limit the risk of introduction and diffusion of animal pathogens. Yet, ex-ante assessment methods of the likelihood of biosecurity measures implementation are poorly documented. Our study aimed at comparing alternative methods of elicitation of preferences to assess the attitude of extensive livestock farmers towards biosecurity measures.

Incisional ventral hernia repair remains a challenging surgery for abdominal wall surgeons. We report the results at 48 months post-surgery regarding open ventral hernia repair (OVHR), analyzing the recurrence rate and incidence of chronic pain. This was a retrospective, observational study of 111 consecutive patients who underwent OVHR.
