Heart transplant candidates that are highly sensitized against human leukocyte antigens (HLA) face ongoing challenge in finding immunologically compatible donors. Desensitization strategies aimed at reducing HLA antibody titers have variable success rates. Imlifidase, a novel immunoglobulin G-degrading enzyme derived from Streptococcus pyogenes has been successfully used to eliminate pre-formed antibodies in sensitized kidney transplant recipients.

Objective: With increasing patients successfully surviving Fontan palliation, there is a rise in Fontan associated liver disease (FALD) and transplant strategies inclusive of combined heart-liver transplantation (CHLT). Therefore, we reviewed a combined dataset assessing outcomes of pediatric patients undergoing CHLT.
Methods: Patients undergoing Fontan CHLT from 2010-2024 at pediatric hospitals were queried from a merged dataset of the Pediatric Health Information System and United Network for Organ Sharing.

Medical follow-up after the transplantation of solid organs is a key component in ensuring long-term survival of both the graft and the patient. This article outlines the essential principles of post-transplant care for recipients of heart, liver, lung, and kidney transplants. Across all organ types, certain core elements are universally important: monitoring of graft function, individualized adjustment of immunosuppressive therapy, early detection and treatment of rejection episodes, consistent prevention, recognition, and management of infections, professional care for comorbidities, and appropriate cancer screening.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) imposes a significant global health burden, yet effective treatments remain limited due to the scarcity of well-characterized biological sample repositories. To address this gap, we established the UCSD Alcohol BioBank, a comprehensive resource containing thousands of samples from over 700 genetically diverse heterogeneous stock (HS) rats. Modeled after successful cocaine and oxycodone biobanks, this repository utilizes the chronic intermittent ethanol vapor exposure (CIE) model, paired with oral self-administration, to characterize AUD-like behaviors, including ethanol consumption, preference, motivation, and withdrawal symptoms such as allodynia and anxiety-like behavior.

Background: Transplantation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) nucleic acid (NAT) positive organs is associated with shorter time to transplant and decreased risk of death on the waiting list. Treatment for HCV post-transplant is well-tolerated, successful, and leads to similar transplant outcomes to patients transplanted with HCV NAT- organs. Despite these outcomes, not all patients consent to receive HCV NAT+ organs, and factors associated with consent are not well-known.
