Article Abstract

Giant impact-driven redox processes in the atmosphere and magma ocean played crucial roles in the evolution of Earth. However, because of the absence of rock records from that time, understanding these processes has proven challenging. Here, we present experimental results that simulate the giant impact-driven reactions between iron and volatiles (HO and CO) using x-ray free electron laser (XFEL) as fast heat pump and structural probe. Under XFEL pump, iron is oxidized to wüstite (FeO), while volatiles are reduced to H and CO. Furthermore, iron oxidation proceeds into formation of hydrides (γ-FeH) and siderite (FeCO), implying redox boundary near 300-km depth. Through quantitative analysis on reaction products, we estimate the volatile and FeO budgets in bulk silicate Earth, supporting the Theia hypothesis. Our findings shed light on the fast and short-lived process that led to reduced atmosphere, required for the emergence of prebiotic organic molecules in the early Earth.

Introduction: To improve the work efficiency and reduce heat-related illness of emergency rescue personnel, the effects of emergency rescue clothing on physiological and perceptual responses were investigated.

Methods: Thirteen participants were recruited to perform human trials in a climate chamber wherein the ambient temperature and relative humidity was controlled at 35°C and 75%, and 25°C and 65%, respectively. The Mediterranean Basin, a hotspot for tomato production, is one of the most vulnerable areas to climate change, where rising temperatures and increasing soil and water salinization represent major threats to agricultural sustainability. Thus, to understand the molecular mechanisms behind plant responses to this stress combination, an RNA-Seq analysis was conducted on roots and shoots of tomato plants exposed to salt (100 mM NaCl) and/or heat (42°C, 4 h each day) stress for 21 days. The analysis identified over 8000 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) under combined stress conditions, with 1716 DEGs in roots and 2665 in shoots being exclusively modulated in response to this specific stress condition.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of cooled endotracheal tubes on the incidence of postoperative sore throat, hoarseness, coughing, and dysphagia after endotracheal intubation.

Methods: This randomized controlled trial enrolled patients undergoing elective surgery under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation at Adana Dr Turgut Noyan Hospital between April and September 2023. The patients were randomly assigned to be intubated with endotracheal tubes refrigerated at +4 °C for 4-6 hours before intubation (n=66) or with endotracheal tubes kept at the operating room temperature (+20-23 °C) (n=70).

Endotoxins are components of the outer membrane of bacteria that can become airborne during aerosol-generating work activities and cause adverse effects on workers' health. Filtration is the sampling method recommended by the EN 14031 standard for endotoxin measurements in workplace atmospheres. However, there are still differences in terms of practice regarding certain parameters of the measurement method.
