Bacterial strains and clonal complexes are two cornerstone concepts for microbiology that remain loosely defined, which confuses communication and research. Here we identify a natural gap in genome sequence comparisons among isolate genomes of all well-sequenced species that has gone unnoticed so far and could be used to more accurately and precisely define these and related concepts compared to current methods. These findings advance the molecular toolbox for accurately delineating and following the important units of diversity within prokaryotic species and thus should greatly facilitate future epidemiological and micro-diversity studies across clinical and environmental settings.

As artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more integrated into the field of healthcare, medical students need to learn the foundational AI literacy. Yet, traditional, descriptive teaching methods of AI topics are often ineffective in engaging the learners. This article introduces a new application of cinema to teaching AI concepts in medical education.

Bioremediation offers a sustainable and eco-friendly approach for addressing petroleum contamination. In this study, we investigated the hydrocarbon-degrading potential of Microbacter sp. EMBS2025, a strain previously isolated and characterized for its biosurfactant-producing capabilities.

Although many CKD cases are diagnosed in the earlier stages, the greatest risk occurs when CKD progresses to KFRT. Despite its considerable financial and imposing impact on public health, there is a notable gap in international policies addressing CKD and KFRT.

Mangrove ecosystems are critical for coastal protection and biodiversity but are increasingly threatened by plastic pollution, particularly polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In this study, a novel marine bacterium, strain SCSIO 80796, was isolated from PET debris collected from the mangrove in QiAo Island, Zhuhai, China. Using a polyphasic taxonomic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequencing, genome-based comparisons (average nucleotide identity [ANI] 72.
