Remimazolam besylate in intravenous conscious sedation for dental treatment: a prospective cohort study.

Br Dent J

August 2025

Anesthesia and Intensive Care for Women and Children Unit, Fondazione IRCCS Ca´ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, 20122 Milan, Italy.

Introduction This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of remimazolam for dental intravenous conscious sedation. It focused on evaluating sedation success rate, management of pre-operative anxiety, sedation depth, psychomotor recovery and variations in vital parameters.Materials and methods This single-centre, prospective cohort study involved 101 patients undergoing dental procedures.

Mediating role of feeder connections in the relationship between brain network efficiency and episodic memory in amnestic MCI.

Clin Neurophysiol

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 200437, China; School of Rehabilitation Science, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 201203, China;

Objectives: Advances in connectomics and network neuroscience have opened new avenues for the in-depth study of complex brain networks. However, the mechanisms of brain neuroplasticity associated with fiber connections ("lines") and networks ("planes") for the integration of episodic memory remain largely unknown. This study aimed to: (1) analyze the topological properties of individual structural networks using multi-shell, multi-tissue, constrained spherical deconvolution (MSMT-CSD) based on high-angular resolution diffusion imaging (HARDI) data and (2) explore the mediation among network efficiency, the three types of connections in individual structural networks, and episodic memory.

Preventive strategies for reducing intraoperative awareness due to errors in anesthetic drug delivery systems: a narrative review.

Front Pharmacol

June 2025

Department of Anesthesiology, The First People's Hospital of Chenzhou, The First Affiliated Clinical College, University of Xiangnan, Chenzhou, Hunan, China.

General anesthesia should induce unconsciousness and provide amnesia. Intraoperative awareness (IOA) is the unexpected awakening of the patient during general anesthesia, which also implies failure of anesthesia. Inadequate concentration of anesthetic drugs due to malfunction or error in the Anesthetic Drug Delivery Systems (ADDS) is a common cause of IOA.

Background: One of the primary actions of general anaesthetic agents, apart from inducing a state of unconsciousness, is reversible impairment of memory formation during the period of administration. Failure to induce and maintain amnesia can result in recall of accidental intraoperative awareness and contribute to adverse psychological health outcomes. The precise mechanisms of action by which general anaesthetics achieve their amnesic effects are not fully understood.

General anesthesia typically involves three key components: amnesia, analgesia, and immobilization. Monitoring the depth of anesthesia (DOA) during surgery is crucial for personalizing anesthesia regimens and ensuring precise drug delivery. Since general anesthetics act primarily on the brain, this organ becomes the target for monitoring DOA.
