Aims: This study aims to investigate the genomic profile of a multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli strain, 160-11H1, co-carrying an extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and the plasmid-mediated mobile colistin resistance gene, mcr-5.
Methods And Results: The entire genome of the strain was sequenced using Illumina MiSeq and Oxford Nanopore platforms, and de novo assembly was performed using Unicycler. The genome size was 5 031,330 bp and comprised 5 140 coding sequences.

Objectives: Antibiotic resistance towards penicillin has been attempted to counter by chemically modifying ampicillin through the conjugation with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The current study optimizes the conditions for synthesizing and characterizing AgNP-ampicillin to quantify the conjugation extent, evaluate the antibacterial efficacy, and explore the underlying antibacterial mechanisms.
Materials And Methods: AgNPs were synthesized from silver nitrate by chemical reduction method, silica-coated with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and amine functionalized by (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), which was then conjugated with ampicillin via the carbodiimide chemistry.

Mycoplasma pneumonia, a primary aetiological agent of atypical pneumonia, necessitates the implementation of rapid point-of-care diagnostics. Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIAs) hold promise for point-of-care testing (POCT), yet their sensitivity levels are frequently constrained by probe affinity and matrix interference. We introduce an orientational labelling strategy that employs magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) functionalized with staphylococcal protein A (SPA) to simultaneously enhance antibody orientation and facilitate magnetic enrichment.

Purpose: This study investigates the antibacterial and anticancer activity of previously reported iron oxide (FeO)-based nanoparticles (NPs) conjugated with chlorin e6 and folic acid (FCF) in photodynamic therapy (PDT) using a human bladder cancer (BC) (T-24) cell line and three bacterial strains.
Method: To investigate the potential applicability of the synthesized NPs as therapeutic agents for image-based photodynamic BC therapy, their photodynamic anticancer activity was analyzed and the mechanisms of cell death in T-24 cells treated with these NPs were assessed qualitatively and quantitatively through atomic absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence imaging, and transmission electron microscopy.
Results: The effective localization of FCF NPs in T-24 cells were confirmed, validating their excellent cellular fluorescence and magnetic resonance imaging capabilities.
