-[Ru(EtOtpy)(pynp)Cl] (-) (EtOtpy = 4'-ethoxy-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine, pynp = 2-(2-pyridyl)-1,8-naphthyridine), and /-[Ru(EtOtpy)(pynp)OH] (/-) complexes were newly synthesized to investigate the synergistic influence of the geometric configuration coupled with substituent introduction of an ethoxy (EtO) group on the physicochemical properties and reactions of the Ru(II) complexes. Configurationally nonselective aquation of - was uniquely observed to form /- isomers in water, in contrast to configurationally selective aquation of -[Ru(tpy)(pynp)Cl] (-, tpy = 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine) without the EtO group [Yamazaki, H. . 2011, 133, 8846-8849].The kinetic profiles of the aquation reactions of - were well analyzed using a sequential reversible reaction model assuming the reversible interconversion between /- isomers -. The observed equilibrium constant () of isomerization between /- was calculated from the kinetic analysis as = 0.45, which is consistent with the final concentration ratio (1:0.43) of /- generated in the aquation reaction of -. The irreversible photoisomerization from - to - was observed in water with an internal quantum yield (Φ) of 0.44% at 520 nm. Electrochemical measurements showed that - undergoes a 2-step oxidation reaction of 1H-coupled 1e processes of Ru-OH/Ru-OH and Ru-OH/Ru═O at pH 1.3-9.7, whereas - undergoes a 1-step oxidation reaction of a 2H-coupled 2e process of Ru-OH/Ru═O in the pH range of 1.8-11.5. Any redox potential of /- isomers was decreased by the electro-donating EtO substitution, compared with /-[Ru(tpy)(pynp)OH] (/-). The turnover frequency ( = 1.7 × 10 s) of - for water oxidation catalysis is higher than that (3.5 × 10 s) of - by a factor of 48.6. The value (1.7 × 10 s) for - is 4.5-fold higher than those of - (3.8 × 10 s). The higher value of - compared with - could be explained by the fast oxidation rate from Ru═O to Ru═O involved in the rate-determining step due to the electron-donating EtO group.

Background: Our previous study suggested that low bone mineral density (BMD), known as osteopenia, was a poor prognostic factor in patients who underwent esophagectomy for esophageal cancer (EC).Meanwhile, the association between BMD reduction during neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and the worse prognosis remains unknown, although esophagectomy after NAC is the first option for the treatment of advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Therefore, this study intended to investigate the prognostic impact of BMD reduction during NAC.

HLA class I allele loss in acquired aplastic anemia (AA) represents an immune escape from the T cell-mediated pathogenesis. We investigated the impact of loss-prone HLA alleles on the hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) outcomes using registry data of 875 Japanese patients with acquired AA. HLA associations were evident exclusively among 399 patients who received HCT within 1 year of the diagnosis, consistent with the predominance of HLA loss in this group.

Background: Double-negative T (DNT) cells (CD3+CD4-CD8-NK1.1-) demonstrate immunoregulatory functions in maintaining hepatic immune homeostasis. This study investigates how energy metabolism impacts DNT cell survival and immunoregulatory functions, exploring potential therapeutic applications for autoimmune hepatitis.

Background: Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) is an aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is the only curative option but has been limited in older patients due to toxicity risks. With Japan's aging population and evolving treatment options, reassessing allo-HSCT in patients aged ≥65 is essential.
