Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a powerful analytical technique; however, its quantitative application has been limited by the instability of substrates and significant signal fluctuations. In this study, we demonstrated that 4-aminobenzenethiol (4-ATP) can be quantitatively detected through statistical analysis of SERS signal intensity distributions obtained using citrate-stabilized AuNPs, biotin-functionalized AuNPs, and gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-bound polystyrene (PS) microparticles. Raman spectra obtained in bulk aqueous solution under static conditions showed that the detection sensitivity of 4-ATP using AuNP-bound PS microparticles was approximately twice that achieved with citrate-stabilized AuNPs or biotin-modified AuNPs.

Wastewater solids management is a key contributor to the operational cost and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs). This study proposes a 'waste-to-energy' strategy using a hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL)-based system to displace conventional energy- and emission-intensive practices. The proposed system directs HTL-produced biocrude to oil refineries and recovers regionally tailored nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers.

The rate of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is ~1 per 1000 patients each year. Terminal events reportedly involve repeated and prolonged apnea, suggesting a failure to autoresuscitate. To better understand the mechanisms and identify novel therapeutics, standardized tests to screen for autoresuscitation efficacy are needed in preclinical SUDEP.

Aims: Non-pharmacological therapies for acute decompensated heart failure (HF) and cardiogenic shock have evolved considerably in recent decades. Short-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices can be used as circulatory backup. While nearly all available devices use continuous flow, evidence indicates that pulsatile flow can be more effective.

Background And Aims: Hypothyroid patients often complain of shortness of breath, fatigue, and exercise intolerance. Both inspiratory and expiratory muscles' weakness is present, and the impairment of pulmonary function may be initiated at the subclinical stage of hypothyroidism. Hence, this study aimed to assess the pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in hypothyroid patients.
