Oncogenic pruritus or malignancy associated pruritus is an emerging cause of systemic pruritus in patients with malignancies. It is a debilitating condition and worsens the patient's quality of life, often interfering with their palliative care. Oncogenic pruritus can arise de-novo in such patients due to release of pruritogens and other inflammatory mediators from tumour cells into blood stream, or it may present as a component of paraneoplastic syndrome.

Background: Nitrous oxide (N₂O)-related neurotoxicity is a significant public health concern among young people in the UK. Recognition necessitates timely diagnosis, abstinence from N₂O consumption and replacement of vitamin B12, usually via intramuscular (IM) hydroxocobalamin. This service development project evaluated a self-injection programme (SIP) compared with a nurse-led approach, within an established ambulatory care pathway, with the aim of improving treatment adherence and completion.

Disordered eating behaviors and depressive symptoms can be problematic during pregnancy for both the individual and their offspring. Our study aimed to determine the extent to which body image dissatisfaction early in pregnancy predicts eating disorder behaviors and/or depressive symptoms across pregnancy. Participants ( = 253) completed self-report assessments of depressive and eating disorder symptoms alongside the modified Body Image in Pregnancy Scale in their first, second, and third trimesters.

Methamphetamine use disorder remains a significant public health concern, impacting neuronal function, immune responses, and vascular integrity. Of particular interest is methamphetamine's disruption of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a key event that triggers neuroimmune dysfunction and the development of neurodegenerative conditions. While the systemic effects of methamphetamine are well-characterized, the mechanism(s) governing its dysregulation of BBB physiology remain poorly understood.

Gene-environment (GxE) interactions crucially contribute to complex phenotypes. The statistical power of a GxE interaction study is limited mainly due to weak GxE interaction effect sizes. Joint tests of the main genetic and GxE effects for a univariate phenotype were proposed to utilize the individually weak GxE effects to improve the discovery of associated genetic loci.
