Intellectual disability is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 2-3% of the general population. Syndromic forms of intellectual disability frequently have a genetic basis and are often accompanied by additional developmental anomalies. Pathogenic variants in components of TATA-binding protein associated factors (TAFs) have recently been identified in a subset of patients with intellectual disability, craniofacial hypoplasia, and congenital heart disease. This syndrome has been termed as a TAFopathy and includes mutations in TATA binding protein (TBP), TAF1, TAF2, and TAF6. The underlying mechanism by which TAFopathies give rise to neurodevelopmental, craniofacial, and cardiac abnormalities remains to be defined. Through a forward genetic screen in zebrafish, we have recovered a recessive mutant phenotype characterized by craniofacial hypoplasia, ventricular hypoplasia, heart failure at 96 h post-fertilization and lethality, and show it is caused by a nonsense mutation in taf5. CRISPR/CAS9 mediated gene editing revealed that these defects where phenocopied by mutations in taf1 and taf5. Mechanistically, taf5-/- zebrafish displayed misregulation in metabolic gene expression and metabolism as evidenced by RNA sequencing, respiration assays, and metabolite studies. Collectively, these findings suggest that the TAF complex may contribute to neurologic, craniofacial, and cardiac development through regulation of metabolism.

Social robots show promise in supporting both people with intellectual disabilities and their health care professionals; yet, few are fully developed and embedded in productive care environments. Implementation of such technologies is inherently complex, requiring careful examination of facilitators and barriers influencing sustained use.

The objective of the analysis was a narrative reflection on the profession of a teacher of medical professionals based on the principles of medical education and specialization programs applicable in Poland. The core curriculum for teaching in the field of medicine was analysed in detail, including also the insufficiently developed principles of selection and education of academic and vocational teachers.

This was a cross-sectional study including epidemiological characteristics related to live births of individuals with and without Down syndrome using the Brazilian government website. The average prevalence of Down syndrome in Brazil was approximately 30.

Background: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy may be associated with an increased risk of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes for the child, though no recent comprehensive meta-analyses exist. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the association between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and child neurodevelopmental disabilities, intelligence, and educational outcomes.
Methods And Findings: A search was conducted of MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and PsycINFO databases from inception until 18 September 2024.
