Noncovalent interactions (NCIs) play a crucial role in biology, chemistry, material science, and everything in between. To improve pure quantum-chemical simulations of NCIs, we propose a methodology for constructing approximate correlation energies by combining an interpolation along the Møller-Plesset adiabatic connection (MP AC) with a regularization and spin-scaling strategy applied to MP2 correlation energies. This combination yields κ-SPL2, which exhibits superior accuracy for NCIs compared to any of the individual strategies. With the formal scaling, κ-SPL2 is competitive or often outperforms more expensive dispersion-corrected double hybrids for NCIs. The accuracy of κ-SPL2 particularly shines for anionic halogen bonded complexes, where it surpasses standard dispersion-corrected DFT by a factor of 3 to 5.

Myelin and myelin water (MW) behavior is becoming increasingly relevant in their role in neurodegenerative diseases. Myelin proton fraction (MPF) and myelin water fraction (MWF) measured with short-TR adiabatic inversion-recovery (STAIR) sequences are potential biomarkers of myelin and MW, respectively, but their repeatabilities are unknown. This study aims to evaluate the repeatability of MPF and MWF measured with the STAIR ultrashort echo time (STAIR-UTE) and STAIR short echo time (STAIR-STE) sequences, respectively.

We present a method for probing the quantum capacitance associated with the Rydberg transition of surface electrons on liquid helium using radio-frequency (rf) reflectometry. Resonant microwave excitation of the Rydberg transition induces a redistribution of image charges on capacitively coupled electrodes, giving rise to a quantum capacitance originating from adiabatic state transitions and the finite curvature of the energy bands. By applying frequency-modulated resonant microwaves to drive the Rydberg transition, we systematically measured a capacitance sensitivity of 0.

We have observed the signatures of valence electron rearrangement in photoexcited ammonia using ultrafast hard x-ray scattering. Time-resolved x-ray scattering is a powerful tool for imaging structural dynamics in molecules because of the strong scattering from the core electrons localized near each nucleus. Such core-electron contributions generally dominate the differential scattering signal, masking any signatures of rearrangement in the chemically important valence electrons.

Background And Purpose: Low-level light therapy (LLLT) has been shown to modulate recovery in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the longitudinal impact of LLLT on brain metabolites has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to use magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) to assess the metabolic response of LLLT in patients with moderate TBI at acute (within 1 week), subacute (2-3 weeks), and late-subacute (3 months) recovery phases.

The challenge of photocatalytic hydrogen production has motivated a targeted search for MXenes as a promising class of materials for this transformation because of their high mobility and high light absorption. High-throughput screening has been widely used to discover new materials, but the relatively high cost limits the chemical space for searching MXenes. We developed a deep-learning-enabled high-throughput screening approach that identified 14 stable candidates with suitable band alignment for water splitting from 23 857 MXenes.
