The deregulation of BCL2 family proteins plays a crucial role in leukemia development. Therefore, pharmacological inhibition of this family of proteins is becoming a prevalent treatment method. However, due to the emergence of primary and acquired resistance, efficacy is compromised in clinical or preclinical settings. We developed a drug sensitivity prediction model utilizing a deep tabular learning algorithm for the assessment of venetoclax sensitivity in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) patient samples. Through analysis of predicted venetoclax-sensitive and resistant samples, PLK1 was identified as a cooperating partner for the BCL2-mediated antiapoptotic program. This finding was substantiated by additional data obtained through phosphoproteomics and high-throughput kinase screening. Concurrent treatment using venetoclax with PLK1-specific inhibitors and PLK1 knockdown demonstrated a greater therapeutic effect on T-ALL cell lines, patient-derived xenografts, and engrafted mice compared with using each treatment separately. Mechanistically, the attenuation of PLK1 enhanced BCL2 inhibitor sensitivity through upregulation of BCL2L13 and PMAIP1 expression. Collectively, these findings underscore the dependency of T-ALL on PLK1 and postulate a plausible regulatory mechanism.

In response to the growing shift toward interprofessional continuing education (CE), two nursing professional development (NPD) practitioners partnered with other education experts to achieve Joint Accreditation for their large pediatric academic healthcare organization. This included developing an innovative NPD Specialist-CE role that has advanced interdisciplinary collaboration, streamlined CE processes, and supported system-wide professional development. This role's success highlights the invaluable contributions of NPD practitioners in today's interprofessional education landscape.

Background: In healthcare education, virtual reality (VR), simulating real-world situations, is emerging as a tool to improve communication skills, particularly in sensitive scenarios involving patients and caregivers. While promising, VR-based education also poses challenges such as avatar realism, cognitive load, and the need for pedagogical grounding.
Objective: This protocol paper presents the VR-TALKS project, which aims to develop, apply, and evaluate VR scenarios designed to teach healthcare students communication skills in serious illness scenarios.

Using precision analytics approaches with population health data helps identify localized patterns of social determinants and comorbidities, supporting the design of tailored interventions. The University of Kentucky College of Public Health (UKCPH) and UK King's Daughters (UKKD) have partnered to create a Precision Public Health Alliance (PPHA) applying precision analytics to UKKD electronic health records (EHR) as well as secondary datasets to map social, demographic, and clinical comorbidity factors onto colorectal cancer (CRC) screening data in UKKD's rural service area (the northeastern Kentucky counties of Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence and southeast Ohio county of Lawrence). In addition to UKKD and UKCPH clinicians and researchers, PPHA includes a community-based Action Team of local social services, behavioral health, and public health agencies and Cooperative Extension agents responsible for translating findings into quality improvement priorities.

Academic-Practice Partnerships (APPs) are formal relationships between academic institutions and healthcare organizations that aim to improve healthcare delivery by preparing practice-ready nurses who readily transition into the workforce. The purpose of this article is to describe the intentional process used to create a new APP between a healthcare organization in a rural setting with a medium sized Midwestern university. The focus of the APP is to enhance leadership experiences for prelicensure students from the academic setting and make the meaningful work and impact of the practice partner nurse leaders visible to students.
