Standing sway assessments can detect sensory imbalances which compromise postural control. Persons with lower limb amputation (LLA) often demonstrate impaired postural control, increasing fall risk. Here, principal features of postural sway were identified in persons with unilateral LLA using a single, commercially available wearable sensor. Sixty-one persons with LLA (n = 44 transtibial; n = 17 transfemoral) stood on a firm surface with eyes open/closed while wearing a single accelerometer mounted over the sacrum. Common parameters quantified spatiotemporal and spectral features of sway in anterior-posterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) directions. Principal component (PC) dimensionality reduction was applied and loadings inspected to identify a reduced, non-redundant set among 14 original variables capturing 90 % variance. Six PCs described ≥ 90 % variance, with the first 3 explaining 75 %. With eyes open and closed, PC1 was loaded by variables characterizing trajectory planar size: area, jerk (i.e., sway smoothness), AP/ML RMS path distance, and AP/ML path range. With eyes open, PC2 was loaded by variables characterizing direction and spectral features: ellipse rotation, AP centroidal frequency, and ML jerk. With eyes closed, PC2 spectral loadings increased: ML centroidal frequency, ML frequency dispersion, and AP centroidal frequency. With eyes open, PC3 was loaded by ellipse rotation, jerk, ML velocity, ML centroidal frequency. With eyes closed, PC3 was loaded by ellipse rotation, ML centroidal frequency, ML frequency dispersion, and AP path velocity, characterizing off-axis error/corrections. RMS of path distance, ellipse rotation, centroidal frequency, frequency dispersion, path velocity, and jerk are a concise parameter set, derived from an accelerometer, to capture principal sway features in persons with LLA during standing balance with visual perturbations.

This is the first comprehensive study to examine the feasibility of using acoustic measures to characterize coarticulatory dynamics in Arabic speakers with Broca's aphasia, addressing a significant gap in the literature and contributing to both universal and culturally specific understandings of coarticulatory timing in aphasia. Five Palestinian Arabic-speaking participants with Broca's aphasia and five control speakers completed a repetition task involving initial fricative-vowel syllables. Using PRAAT software, the analysis incorporates both static and dynamic acoustic parameters, including formant values (F2 and F3), transition slopes and variability, Voice Onset Time (VOT), and intensity measures.

Hierarchical clustering analysis is applied to the positioning of two simultaneously-occurring intrusion events in the case of a dual Mach-Zehnder interferometer used for intrusion detection. To simulate the two intrusion events, the sensing fibers of the dual Mach-Zehnder interferometer are heavily knocked at two different positions simultaneously. Then the clockwise (CW) and counter-clockwise (CCW) signals are loaded into a personal computer through a data acquisition module, and analyzed by Fourier transform method for determination of the time delay between the two signals.

Purpose: To allow exploration of xanthophyll carotenoids in vision and age-related macular degeneration progression using two-wavelength autofluorescence imaging for macular pigment optical density (MPOD), we developed tools for automatically centering and classifying the MPOD distribution pattern.
Methods: A subset of the ALSTAR2 baseline cohort (NCT04112667) and 44 eyes of adults aged 20 to 30 years with healthy maculas were imaged with optical coherence tomography and two-wavelength autofluorescence (MPOD module, Heidelberg Engineering). Images underwent a quality review.

Background: Geographic accessibility to alcohol, cannabis, and tobacco has changed in Ontario, Canada between 2019 and 2022 due to regulatory changes.
Aim: We conceptualize geographic accessibility to these substances as a 'riskscape' and investigate how these recent regulatory changes have altered the substance riskscape in Ontario, Canada in relation to neighborhood socioeconomic factors.
Design: We use an interrupted time series design to calculate the shortest distance between the centroid of each dissemination block and the nearest alcohol, cannabis, and tobacco outlet in 2019 and 2022.
