Palatine tonsils (PT) are B cell-predominant lymphoid organs that provide primary immune responses to airborne and dietary pathogens. Numerous histopathological and immunological studies have been conducted on PT, yet no investigations have been conducted on its metabolic profile. We performed high-resolution magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy-based metabolic profiling in 35 pediatric and 28 adult human palatine tonsillar tissue samples. A total of 36 metabolites were identified, and the levels of 10 metabolites were significantly different depending on age. Among them, partial correlation analysis shows that glucose levels increased with age, whereas glycine, phosphocholine, phosphoethanolamine, and ascorbate levels decreased with age. We confirmed the decrease in immunometabolic activity in adults through metabolomic analysis, which had been anticipated from previous histological and immunological studies on the PT. These results improve our understanding of metabolic changes in the PT with aging and serve as a basis for future tonsil-related metabolomic studies.

Purpose: Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP) is associated with low-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). With HPV DNA testing, the oral rinse of RRP patients may be a useful liquid biopsy, as previously shown in patients with oropharyngeal cancer.
Methods: Oral rinse, along with palatine and pharyngeal tonsil swabs, were collected from seven patients with persistent RRP.

Day surgery is an important part of the comprehensive reform of public hospitals, which is conducive to improving hospital management level, enhancing medical service efficiency, and controlling medical expenses. The National Health Commission has included tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy in the recommended list of daytime surgeries. However, there is no unified understanding and clinical practice of tonsillar and/or adenoid day surgery in China.

Purpose: To measure and compare the palatal masticatory mucosal thickness from maxillary canine to the second molar region of Han and Uygur periodontally healthy people in Xinjiang area by using CBCT, and to analyze the related factors.
Methods: CBCT images of 48 periodontally healthy subjects in each nationality were selected from the Dental Clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The thickness of the palatal masticatory mucosa, the height and width of the palatine fornices, and the location of the greater palatine foramen were measured at the distance of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm from the gingival margin.
