Article Abstract

Wound infections are feared complications due to their potential to increase healthcare costs and cause mortality since multidrug-resistant bacteria reduce treatment options. This study reports the development of a carbomer hydrogel containing biogenic silver nanoparticles (bioAgNPs) and its effectiveness in wound treatment. This hydrogel showed in vitro bactericidal activity after 2 h, according to the time-kill assay. It also reduced bacterial contamination in rat wounds without impairing their healing since the hydrogel hydrophilic groups provided hydration for the injured skin. The high number of inflammatory cells in the first days of the skin lesion and the greater degree of neovascularization one week after wound onset showed that the healing process occurred normally. Furthermore, the hydrogel-containing bioAgNPs did not cause toxic silver accumulation in the organs and blood of the rats. This study developed a bioAgNP hydrogel for the treatment of wounds; it has a potent antimicrobial action without interfering with cicatrization or causing silver bioaccumulation. This formulation is effective against bacteria that commonly cause wound infections, such as and , and for which new antimicrobials are urgently needed, according to the World Health Organization's warning.

This study focuses on tripartite synthesis of Silver (AgNPs), Mesoporous Silica (MSNs), and Hydroxyapatite (n-HAp) nanoparticles with aqueous extract of Cissus quadrangularis (Veldt grape plant; Indian name: Pirandai) as a reducing agent. The dried and powdered form of the plant was subjected to aqueous extraction. The phytochemicals analysis was qualitatively estimated which detected the presence of alkaloid, tannin, phenol, terpenoid, steroid and saponin.

Antifungal drug resistance is a growing concern, necessitating new therapeutic alternatives. This study evaluated the antifungal activity and molecular effects of biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized using the culture filtrate of against , a highly resistant fungal species. AgNPs exhibited strong antifungal activity, with a MIC of 1.

Isoprene, the most abundant biogenic hydrocarbon in the atmosphere, is known to protect photosynthesis from abiotic stress and significantly impact atmospheric chemistry. While laboratory studies show that isoprene can enhance plant immunity, its role in plant-plant communication under natural field conditions remains unclear. In a 2-year field experiment, we used wild-type and transgenic silver birch (Betula pendula) lines with enhanced isoprene emission levels to examine their impact on neighboring Arabidopsis thaliana, including wild-type and immune signaling mutants (llp1: legume lectin-like protein 1; jar1: jasmonate resistant 1).

Plants are a valuable source of bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential. Antibacterials of natural origin represent a promising and sustainable alternative in the fight against bacterial infections. In addition to being effective against bacterial growth, these natural agents may have lower toxicity and fewer side effects, which reinforces their value in the development of new therapeutic strategies.

This study presents an optimization of the sustainable synthesis of silver particles (AgPs) derived from hazelnut leaves employing a full factorial design. Four synthesis parameters were systematically evaluated at two levels: the water-to-leaf ratio (LW), extract-to-AgNO₃ ratio (EAg), AgNO₃ molarity (Mol), and plant leaf size (LS). Statistical analysis revealed that LW and the interaction between EAg and Mol are significant factors influencing the synthesis yield of AgPs.
