Objective: Complex locoregional closure of back wounds following spine surgery via muscle flap closure, as opposed to traditional layer-by-layer approximation, decreases rates of complications such as seroma, infection, and dehiscence. However, the impact of barbed suture use on operative time, surgical cost, and patient outcomes for these cases remains unknown. In this study, the authors aimed to evaluate the complication profile, time, and cost savings of barbed suture in complex flap closure of back wounds following the placement of spinal instrumentation.

A 3-month-old boy underwent preoperative correction for complete bilateral cleft lip with prominent premaxillary protrusion, in which we pulled and attached the lateral lip to the premaxilla and then the contralateral lip to each other with barbed sutures. Definitive cleft repair was performed 1.

Inguinal hernia is one of the most common procedures performed using a robotic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) approach. Recurrence can occur due to failed reperitonealization. A breach in the peritoneum exposing mesh to bowel can lead to severe complications, requiring surgical correction.

Rhinoplasty is frequently performed in Asian populations, with nonsurgical rhinoplasty using hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers becoming an increasingly popular alternative for patients seeking subtle corrections, those with contraindications to surgery, or individuals preferring temporary, less-invasive solutions. HA fillers are often combined with other minimally invasive procedures, such as barbed thread insertion, to enhance aesthetic outcomes and overcome individual limitations. Although these procedures are generally considered safe, most complications are reported within a short treatment period, allowing for timely management.
