Article Abstract
The number of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) have grown over the last few years. We asked several Black scientists what impact they have and why STEMM still needs them. They answer these questions and describe how DEI initiatives should evolve.

The survival rates for children with cancer have increased appreciably over the last few decades; however, childhood cancer survivors continue to suffer from long-lasting sequelae. Studies have demonstrated that the presence of malnutrition, over- and under-nutrition, at diagnosis or the duration of malnutrition during treatment is associated with increased toxicity, infection, and inferior survival. Dietary habits, along with behavioral and socioeconomic status, are known factors that lead to obesity or undernutrition and can affect the prognosis and quality of life of children with cancer.

Background: As part of the improvement plan of the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori of Milan (INT) a Committee composed of patients, caregivers, and representatives of patient associations has been established to actively participate in the planning and organization of both hospital services and research initiatives. The potential impact of implementation of the Committee could ensure a patient-centered care environment.
Aim: To determine whether there is consensus among INT staff on key aspects of the Committee.
