α-Synuclein accumulates in Lewy bodies, and this accumulation is a pathological hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD). Previous studies have indicated a causal role of α-synuclein in the pathogenesis of PD. However, the molecular and cellular mechanisms of α-synuclein toxicity remain elusive. Here, we describe a novel phosphorylation site of α-synuclein at T64 and the detailed characteristics of this post-translational modification. T64 phosphorylation was enhanced in both PD models and human PD brains. T64D phosphomimetic mutation led to distinct oligomer formation, and the structure of the oligomer was similar to that of α-synuclein oligomer with A53T mutation. Such phosphomimetic mutation induced mitochondrial dysfunction, lysosomal disorder, and cell death in cells and neurodegeneration in vivo, indicating a pathogenic role of α-synuclein phosphorylation at T64 in PD.

The research on how progesterone shapes physiologic responses to acute stress has yielded inconsistent results. This heterogeneity may be partially attributable to progesterone's effects being shaped by psychosocial stress, whether in the form of stress exposure, such as that associated with low subjective socioeconomic status (SES), or perceived stress. Though one's preexisting levels of stress exposure and perceived stress have been identified as impacting the cortisol response to acute psychosocial stress as well, like progesterone, prior results have been mixed.

Despite undergraduate training in geriatric care, gaps persist throughout residency, highlighting limitations of current assessment methods in evaluating medical expertise across geriatric dimensions. We developed a case-based assessment using the geriatric 5Ms framework (Mind, Mobility, Medications, Multicomplexity, Matters Most), aligned with undergraduate objectives and North American internal medicine milestones. We present feasibility data and preliminary validity evidence of using the geriatric 5Ms framework to evaluate residents' geriatric medical expertise.

Background: Over the last 30 years, stress and anxiety in children have risen exponentially, especially as a result of school expectations. As no studies have examined the effect of increased outdoor recess on children's chronic stress levels, this preliminary work focused on comparing hair cortisol concentration (HCC) scores of elementary children who received varied amounts of daily recess.
Methods: HCC scores were collected from 4th grade elementary children (N = 130) from three intervention schools (45 min daily recess) (N = 64; M = 35; F = 29) and three control schools (30 min daily recess) (N = 66; M = 31; F = 35).

The current study aimed to investigate the genetic characterization and evolution of low pathogenic avian influenza virus H9N2 in Egypt. Ten H9N2 viruses were recently isolated from samples collected between 2019 and 2023. Phylogenetic analysis of the haemagglutinin (HA) gene segment of the H9N2 isolates showed a relatedness with G1 H9 4.
