The study described herein is a continuation of our work in which we developed a methodology to identify small foci of transduced cells following rectal challenge of rhesus macaques with a non-replicative luciferase reporter virus. In the current study, the wild-type virus was added to the inoculation mix and twelve rhesus macaques were necropsied 2-4 days after the rectal challenge to study the changes in infected cell phenotype as the infection progressed. Relying on luciferase reporter we noted that both anus and rectum tissues are susceptible to the virus as early as 48h after the challenge. Small regions of the tissue containing luciferase-positive foci were further analyzed microscopically and were found to also contain cells infected by wild-type virus. Phenotypic analysis of the Env and Gag positive cells in these tissues revealed the virus can infect diverse cell populations, including but not limited to Th17 T cells, non Th17 T cells, immature dendritic cells, and myeloid-like cells. The proportions of the infected cell types, however, did not vary much during the first four days of infection when anus and rectum tissues were examined together. Nonetheless, when the same data was analyzed on a tissue-specific basis, we found significant changes in infected cell phenotypes over the course of infection. For anal tissue, a statistically significant increase in infection was observed for Th17 T cells and myeloid-like cells, while in the rectum, the non-Th17 T cells showed the biggest temporal increase, also of statistical significance.

Purpose: Screening and diagnosing ISUP ≥ 2 prostate cancer is challenging. This study aimed to determine whether canine detection could be beneficial addition to the ISUP ≥ 2 prostate cancer diagnostic protocol by creating a decision-making algorithm for men with suspected prostate cancer.
Methods: We conducted a prospective study at two urology institutions and a French veterinary school, including men with a suspicion of prostate cancer from November to April 2023, which were divided into two groups according to their prostate biopsy results.

Objective: Exertional heat illness (EHI) remains a challenge for those that exercise in hot and humid environments. Physiological status monitoring is an attractive method for assessing EHI risk and a critical component of recommended layered risk management approaches. While there is consensus that some combination of core body temperature, mean skin temperature, heart rate (HR), and hydration provide an indication of heat strain, a field-feasible metric that correlates to EHI incidence has not been identified.

Methods: Using data from the Japanese National Clinical Database, we analyzed 109 754 low anterior resection cases between January 2018 and December 2023, categorized into pre-pandemic (February 2020 and earlier), pandemic (March 2020-April 2023), and post-pandemic (May 2023 onward) periods. Trends in the number of low anterior resection cases, postoperative intensive care unit utilization, and complications, including anastomotic leakage and pneumonia, were examined.

We present a rare case of a full-term male neonate with a complex perineal anomaly featuring a mucosa-lined cleft extending from the penile base to the right gluteal fold, accompanied by penoscrotal transposition, hemiscrotal hypoplasia, and hypospadias. The lesion's anatomical and histological characteristics suggest antenatal rupture of a rectal duplication cyst. This report highlights the diagnostic challenges of exteriorized rectal duplications and underscores the importance of multistage reconstruction for optimal functional and cosmetic outcomes.
